mr. speaker. this has been a that answered a lot of our prayers, seeing our good friend steve scalise here and it brings to mind part of the story of that tragic morning that i haven't but told anywhere else ne of our members, mr. loudermilk, was there. the shooter started behind the third base dugout and hit steve scalise right away and it was so deeply touching to hear steve's words today. just rather emotional seeing so many of our prayers answered, seeing steve return to the house. that morning barry was saying little was behind a shooter ea, and as the was moving toward the first ase side, continuing to shoot, matt mika had been shot, was down. barry said he had no place to go. he looked for places to run and there was no place to run. the shooting had been going on for a while, perhaps nine, 10 nutes at that point, and our capitol police officer griner, she was there. she and david bailey were the other capitol policemen were using their suburban for cover in shooting at the shooter, the hate-filled leftist that felt like it was a good idea to kill as many republicans in congress as he could

mr. mccarthy: before i give the schedule, i want to say that today was a day that was very good to see our very dear friend steve scalise make it back. as the gentleman said, an attack on him was an attack on the entire institution. i was there that day in the hospital, my wife and i and waiting for jennifer to arrive and steve going through the surgeries, the number of times we would go back to visit, he is the strongest man i have ever known. his speech was from the heart that he first would seek god's guidance, the strength of jennifer, watch madison and harrison spend their entire summer in that hospital with their father and for him to be able to walk back here as soon as he did and the excitement in his face when he was able to cast that vote. i know steve is going to continue to get stronger as he goes and he thanks everybody for the help they provided. but we should not forget the spirit this floor had today. we should take that spirit into the days forward and continuity. we can disagree, but it takes an unbelievable terrible situation at times to remind us of the human spirit we have for one another. i want to
