mr. thompson. and indeed, it is my pleasure to join you in co-sponsoring the re-authorization of the family violence prevention and services act of 2018. mr. speaker, i am so very, very pleased that this is a piece of bipartisan legislation introduced by glenn thompson and elise stefanik and lisa blunt rochester. and unfortunately, mr. speaker, we have found the need to stick together in a bipartisan manner, because violence against women and children unfortunately is not a partisan issue. that is an issue relegated to one race of people, to one economic class, it's pervasive and it is a detriment to our entire american community. but fortunately, mr. speaker, since 1984, congress has passed the family violence prevention and services act as the primary federal funding source to support emergency shelters and related assistance for victims of domestic violence, and their families. and we have updated it based on best practices that we have seen and the moneys are available to community-driven soluti

mr. thompson, for five minutes. mr. thompson: thank you, mr. speaker. mr. speaker, last week as i traveled the communities of my congressional district, i witnessed and saw firsthand the evidence of the great american comeback. the amount of jobs, job growth that were available. the increase in wages. individuals who left one job, what we call the term for a new job, better job, higher wages. the economic growth just incredible. absolutely incredible. and inspiring. great american comeback. since the tax cuts and jobs act was passed last december, the results on our economy have been historic. the unemployment rate is at 3.9%, the lowest it's been in decades. job openings are at a record high. 213,000 jobs were added in june alone in this great nation. and in june, there were 6.7 million job openings, most 6.9 tly reported were at million jobs opened. marking the first tame since 2 thourd to have been more job openings than those who are unemployed. over the past 6.9 million 12 months, the commonwealth of pennsylvania has added more than 65,000 new jobs. i
