thank you. >> thank you. >> supervisor walton: mr. giusti is here to present on behalf of recology. >> thank you, supervisor walton, supervisors. illegal dumping is a big issue for recology. our regional manager is here, so if we have some questions, we can direct them to him, as well. i just wanted to remind you what recology does on a daily basis and the resources we put to illegal dumping. we work at the direction of public works on this and through the city's 311 reporting system. in addition to the 311, we also have reports that are made by our field supervisors, the calls that come into our customer service center and calls that come into the radio room from the chavez street yard. so the numbers are bigger than eve what director stringer reported. it's probably closer 11,000 calls. monday through friday, we have ten crews out there, working together with a packer truck, which is one of the big traditional trash trucks. and then, we have a panel truck that we can collect things on, washers, dryers, refrigerators that are highly r

mr. walton regarding our -- this initiative to support southeast asian community. i was a refugee with my family coming to this country when i was a toddler, and many of my community have a similar situation. we came here when we were kids. this is the only country we ever knew. unfortunately, most of us grew up in the neighborhood where there's a lot of trauma, a lot of violence, a lot of poverties and drugs, and we got in trouble when we were kids, and have been through the system. a lot of us have currently changed our lives, and are working with the community on different levels. what we're finding now is we're continuing to be ripped apart from our families after three generations, and we're still experiencing this now today. i was one of those individuals who got out of prison -- went to prison when i was shoul14, out of prison in my later years, eventually found work as a counselor. i work as an advocate for my community, to provide rehabilitation for prison services to try to change people's lives. i'm also fortunate to working with governor brown, asking t

mr. walton said, it is time to hold our elected officials accountable, why have you resisted a homeless shelter in district three? >> thank you, supervisor. jeff cozin see, department of homelessness. i believe there were life safety at that site at the church. there are other issued at # 8 broadway -- one of the things with navigation center, and i think rolling these things out responsibly and effectively is when you have a project that you're going to spend millions of dollars to make it come alive, and then, it's only on a temporary basis, it takes a tremendous amount of time, money and work. so we are looking for sites that are available longer term. and the other issue that we're trying to sensitive to is the cost of operating navigation centers. currently, some of smaller sites are costing us more than it does to operate permanent supportive housing sites. so we are looking at sites that are going to be cost effective, and the site that we are talking about on kearny street did not meet those requirements. and also, supervisor, while i appreciate everything, we still would like to find a

[agenda item read]. >> chair peskin: commissioners, we've gotten off to a bad start of the year with eight fatalities of our street in 2019. this morning, i got terrible news that in district three, a crash happened between a vehicle and a bicycle. the individual's in stable condition, but it was just a really bad start for that person and this commissioner this mornings. i want to share a few highlights from the vision zero meeting last week. the 2018 traffic fatality report showed 23 fatalities, of which 18 were lost on foot and bicycle. in 2018, pedestrians accounted for 53% of traffic fatalities, in which 52% were in communities of concern, and 73% were people age 50 or older. we heard from commissioner fewer about the loss of two pedestrians in her district, and we also heard from the police department will the shortage of officers and motorcycle units in the traffic division, a troubling trend of hit and runs which the p.d. is actively in
