mr. wong came to the united states at the age of 17 and because of our country's racist exclusionary laws at the time he he was detained and interrogated for three months in angel island. after making it through interrogation process he was finally able to enter the u.s. he soon turned 18 and was drafted to serve in the military a year after he came to the country. he served for four years and eventually went on to volunteer 407 air squadron group. the 14th service group. composed of primarily chinese americans. mr. wong served in all chinese american unit to assist the flying tigers pilots and train chinese airforce ground crews against the japanese invasion. throughout his service, mr. wong was based in africa, bombay, calcutta, india, burma and multiple cities in china serving as an interpreter, w*elt welder, waiter, trainer. we are grateful for mr. wong's sacrifice despite the cruel and unjust discrimination he faced. it pains me to think our nation still has a long way to go in the way we

mr. schaub. next speaker, please. >> hello. kristie wong from spur and also san francisco resident. thank you for the opportunity to weigh in on the process improvements ordinance. spur strongly supports this effort for streamline the approvals process. i don't believe that the rules we have in san francisco were set up to slow down housing, but that over time the layers of different things that have come up have served to end up creep eig -- creating this process. i appreciate this opportunity to try to make some strategic changes. 100% affordable housing complex to be approved administratively feels like a no-brainer. they're broadly supported and they face enough challenges with financing and other issues that we don't need the city's process to get in the way. it makes sense to eliminate duplicative hearing processes, where possible, and allow minor scopes of work to be approved administratively by staff. we support that. we support the standardization of neighborhood notification requirements. i understand any change to that will raise concerns. i don't think that the goal of t

[applause] i just want to say a few quick words. i'm an educator by trade as well. i used to work at a continuation high school here in san francisco. i taught math, science and health education, as part of special day class as well as a co-taught program. the special education field itself in particular our department has stood in the vanguard for leading for equity in our school and different rimth for a long time. we've been in the vanguard of 2025 before it existed, because we strove to put a spin on education. and i'm referring to strengths, preferences, interests and needs. those of you that are familiar with the individuals with disabilities education improvement act of 2004 are aware that when you plan for transitions for students with special needs, you must consider students' strengths, preferences, interests and needs. and that to me is about blended learning. that to me is about tailoring education to each and every child at the core mission of our work here at san francis
