i have had one employee who has been there for 37 years, mr. wyatt, and he is the one that comes out and has done all the surveys, along with other staff. we are an o.b.e. with the city and we speak all languages, we are all proficient in multiple languages. that means we read, write and speak the language. so everyone knows what the neighborhood watch is, but i sort of add a little bit more of a twist to it when i came over here. i wanted to include more processes and departments from the mayor touch office that we have d.p.w. come out, we have the mayor touch office of neighborhood services, we had legislative aides come out, and we also have a neighborhood prosecutor that comes out to the community and meets with the captains. we support each of the ten stations. i have a staff person who supports each of them and it is the bridge between the community and the police department at these meetings and different functions throughout the city. so the captain really relies on my staff and it is an honour to be able to support them in that way. so we al

coons: miss wyatt and mr. bradshaw, would this be a helpful tool in the tool kit to deescalate perhaps intervene if there is an emerging crisis with someone also trying to get access to a firearm? >> absolutely. and we have this law in our state. and i can tell you we've had two individuals who had extreme risk protection orders against them , and those two individuals went on to try to purchase. and they were charged, i believe, under our law. they were charged as gross misdemeanors. certainly, this is vitally critical information, especially for victims and families. we're tracking both domestic violence offenders trying to purchase as well as following the extreme risk protection orders. so i think it's vitally important for community safety. sen. coons: thank you, ma'am. sheriff? >> i would take it one step further. with the gun shows, you have people that will go into what we call straw purchases, the gang people are really good at this. they'll get somebody that's clean on the face, go in, here's the lau

reporter: back at the station, wyatt interviewed all of jack's relativelies, including cheryl, and jack's wife sandra, who hadn't been missing at all, just out on a shopping trip. >> mrs. jessee came to the station with us voluntarily, told us she would cooperate, wanted to help us solve the murder of her husband. >> reporter: she told him about life with jack, married 14 years, blended family, four kids between them. jack was a patriarch in the jessee clan, she said, a teddy bear of a man, well liked, well to do. il ojaas >> jack was a very, very loving person who doted on his children, doted on his stepchildren, doted on his grandchildren. >> reporter: jack was ill. housebound after colon cancer surgery.k sandra told the detectives she'd been running a bit of a mercy mission for jack and dawdled too long at the mall. >> five minutes one direction, five minutes in traffic, maybe i was on the road almost 15 minutes -- >> she was very, very specific about where she had gone, at what times, and why she had gone there. >> reporter: as for cheryl, she told detectives she'd do anything to find out what happened to her dad in those 15 minutes she was away from the house. >>
