mrs. clinton questioning the bush administration's use of secret e-mail accounts of their own. abc's chief white house correspondent jonathan karl. >> reporter: today, abc news has learned hillary clinton violated state department e-mail policy for all four years she served as secretary of state. a senior state department official items us while mrs. clinton was secretary, state department employees were only allowed to use private e-mail if they turned them over to be entered into government computers, and until they did that they were in violation of the rules. mrs. clinton did not turn over e-mails until late last year nearly two years after she stepped down as secretary. she has been silent on this controversy, but back when she last ran for president, mrs. clinton was quite vocal on government officials who use vie pratt e-mails. >> our constitution is being shredded. we know about the secret wiretaps we know about the secret military tribunals, the secret white house e-mail accounts. >> reporter: so far, the only comment directly from mrs. clinton was that tweet late last

mrs. clinton helped. related but you and i both know otherwise. according to "the wall street journal" secretary of state clinton arranged numerous sweetheart deals with foreign entities on behalf u.s. corporations. that's not necessarily a bad thing. but what happens next is. according to "the wall street journal" many of these companies followed their clinton broker deals with donations to the clinton foundation. consider this, mrs. clinton lobbied the algerian government for ge to build power plants after a multi-billion dollar deal was done ge donated heavily to the clinton foundation. then there's boeing which dropped $900,000 into the foundation after securing a $3.7 billion deal with russia. again, thanks to lobbying from clinton. in fact, at least 60 companies lobbied the state department during her tenure donated more than $26 million to the clinton foundation. the clintons nothing to see here act is offensive. they think the laws don't apply to them. they've always thought they were bigger and be

mrs. clinton to keep her private correspondence out of the public eye while reassuring the public she did not delete anything that affected our country. hillary clinton should immediately request that the fbi examine her server with the assurance that all the privately deleted e-mails would remain private. but if mrs. clinton made a mistake in her assessment of private versus public e-mails, then the fbi would pass the deleted public ones to the state department which would release them. fair? i believe so. if the feds do not look at her server, then any public official could do the same thing. claim private correspondence without scrutiny. at this point it would be grossly unfair to accuse hillary clinton of anything other than bad judgment. but it should not not be up to her or any public official to delete e-mails while on the job. richard nixon tried a similar tactic with tapes back in the watergate days. but understand me i'm not comparing hillary clinton to nixon. i'm just saying we cannot simply accept her word on this one. when verification is as easy as analyzing her server in her

mrs. clinton's team responding, as we unearth what the white house has said about e-mail before. abc's chief white house correspondent jonathan karl. >> reporter: hillary clinton on her blackberry -- one of the iconic images of her days as madame secretary. and it turns out she e-mailed a lot -- at least 55,000 pages of e-mails, according to the state department. but what we didn't know then, she used only personal e-mail accounts, bypassing the government e-mail system that would have automatically saved her e-mails and put them within the reach of congress, media requests and historians. we pressed the white house on this today. have you heard of anybody, any senior official at the white house who just uses personal e-mail? >> i have not encountered that. >> reporter: just listen to what the white house said when mrs. clinton was still secretary of state. >> we are definitely instructed that we need to conduct all of our work on our government accounts. >> reporter: but mrs. clinton didn't even bother to get a government e-mail account. the clinton team says there is nothing nef
