mr. robinson: to be honest i did five things in high school. i chased women, drank beer, smoked marian, played football, and avoided homework during football season. i went to a college prep high school. a number of my friends received academic scholarships to berkley, ucal and the air force academy. i was on the athletic track. there was always a dual track system, even today. as long as i played football well and wasn't in trouble some was passed along. my senior year i was injured in an accident. left fibula was cracked and two inches away from being crippled for life. i realized wow there was a different compact. my social compact had ended and i had to create a new one. host: how did you have that accident? pound inson: a 6'4", 270 sophomore ran helmet first my knee. i heard a crack, by the time i wroked up while i was two uverages from being crippled for life i would be able to walk again but my football season was over. frankly my life as i thought was over at that time. host: how long did it take you to mend and change your direction? mr. robinson: the physical mend took about
