mrs. schlafly was the heart and soul of the conservative movement in the early days. not mrm people thought she would make a difference, but as we look back, mr. speaker, history is telling us otherwise. you know, you hear it over and over again that not one person will make a difference. i will tell you that phyllis schlafly was living proof that one person can make a difference. phyllis soared the highest, cared the most and fought the hardest more than anyone else for our conservative values. since the day i was sworn in not quite four years ago, i have been saying it's time to put america first. through all of mrs. schlafly's work at the very core of her efforts, she wanted to ensure that our country was first and that americans were our top priority and that the federal government and even state governments knew their place. and i find great comfort mr. speaker, knowing that in some small way, lord willing, i would take part that in the work that the work of fill pass schlafly continues. she was a passionate woman who loved this country, loved her family and was f

mrs. schlafly to state her principal objection to e.r.a. >> e.r.a.ng which they haven't already got or have a way of getting. but on the other hand it will take away from women some of the most important rights and benefits and exemptions we now have. i think the laws of our country have given a very wonderful status to the married woman. and the wife has a great deal of many rights. for example, she has the legal right to be supported by her husband. >> there is no law whatsoever in any state that requires a husband to support his wife. it's clearly true that the equal rights amendment is going to be passed -- >> i don't know. mrs. schlafly is not going to let it pass. are you? >> no, i don't think. more states have rejected it this year than have passed it. >> we have gotten eight states to vote to ratify it this year. we have 30 states. >> we have 14 states to reject it. >> they can't reject it. nobody can reject it. >> my goodness. >> she said, you have a good deal, women. you are an exalted member of the human race, you are held to a higher stan
