ms. epstein: torpedos i came to it by accident. i didn't wake up and think i really need to learn more about this. i backed into it, although i was fairly spectacular by the standards. i was flailing around for a dissertation topic, had these meaning of life questions, and someone said what about torpedoes. i have not done that seen any work on them. shockingly, they were right. that became my topic, and then my interest -- i stumbled across the intellectual property dimensions. torpedoes for these usually complex weapon systems, which i did not know when i started. they really were i think at one of the first weapons systems to drive this new procurement relationship between the government and private sector in both the united states and great britain. and so, when i realized both nations were running into variations on the same intellectual property problems, that really piqued my interest. especially since both the united states and great britain see themselves as incredibly liberal, but both governments seemed to be behaving il
