miss johnson is recognized for her opening statement. ms. johnson: thank you very much mr. chairman, i am from texas and i served with your father i believe. he was there when i got there and i believe he is still there. i got there in 1973. i am pleased that the oil and gas industry has done so well. however, i am also a nurse by training and i'm sensitive to the need to protect public health and the environment even as we develop new fossil fuel resources. this hearing is advertised as being about the science of fracking. but the majority of the witnesses consist of state economic regulation and development officials who are representatives of the firm set to run public relations for the fracking industry. that does not sound like a promising panel to honestly examine the scientific question. looking at the majority's hearing materials and testimony it is clear that this is a hearing designed to give a platform to the industry to malign those who question the safety in the industry. there is a focus on undermining local communities that are considering or perhaps have ado
