ms. wilson: after i finished writing my first book, that was anyplace pretty far away in croatia. about my family tracing their roots. i have always followed the newspaper stories. the water issue kept coming up i am a journalist. i was so interested in putting in a factual backdrop to a fictional story for my first time writing a fiction novel. water quality is really close to my heart. i have written for the dnr and done a lot of traveling around the state for three years. the character of the journalist sort of came to my mind and introduced herself. alyx: why is it important for iowans to read this? ms. wilson: this is a defining issue for the state. it is for me the defining issue of the state. when we talk about water quality and how we are going to treat our lands and water, we are going to go forward. it is on the mind of all of us because water is in the central compound for life. it is a shared resource. as someone who comes from a farming family, someone who and restoration and the way nature restores all of us. it keeps us alive. i think we can do better in going forwa
