and msnbc political analyst. sam stein is senior politics editor for "the huffington post" and an msnbc contributor. gentlemen, i want to talk about the phenomenon that is going on. not the old story we're used to of the problems with obama, roll-out and this stuff that goes out in anything, especially government programs. but this sort of festers heat. they keep fanning the flames of hatred, the ideological fury, you must hate obama because you hate obama care. you must hate all democrats because his promises weren't fill filled. >> yeah. well, they think they've got something there, right? they think they've got something that works, that works to destroy trust in president obama and democrats who supported the health care law. and so they're going to push it. they're going to continue pushing it as hard as they can, regardless of what actually happens with the law that becomes kind of irrelevant. it is just the narrative that they want to push, they're going to continue to push. >> it reminds me in a weird way

i have to ask you, the standing up to msnbc thing, is that just new jersey?e is that -- are you guys used to getting attacked on the basis of your reporting, no matter who you report on? >> i'll say that i think tension between politicians and aggressive reporting organizations, news organizations is not uncommon. in this instance, i can speak for myself, we are representing readers in our coverage area, which were impacted by this, there's no partisan motivation, and i'd also point out that the republicans voted for this legislative committee to investigate this matter. chris christie has someone who's conducting an internal review, it seems like on both sides of the aisle, there's acknowledgement that there are unanswered questions, i think the media is perfectly within its right to pursue this. >> calling a partisan witch hunt when it's every republican in the assembly voted to proceed with the investigation. it's hilarious, actually. a dozen and a half new subpoenas have been released tonight. what stands out the most for you here, as you heard me explain

and david corn, msnbc political analyst. mr. boburg, thank you very much for joining us. what is your reaction to the news we broke tonight in the beginning of the program, the fact that bridget kelly has just been threatened with a subpoena -- i'm sorry, threatened with contempt. she has already been served a subpoena for all the e-mails and other evidence she apparently has that might be relevant here. and of course the threat, the same kind of tough action being taken against bill stepien, the former campaign manager. so this little circle. anything you can tell us about where this story is going right now? >> it's definitely going to the courts. the legislature, the legislative body, the joint committee that issued these subpoenas and have moved to compel the production of documents from both bill stepien and bridget kelly be probably go to a judge, a superior court judge in new jersey and ask a judge to intervene and force the turnover of any relevant documents. so we could be seeing a process that plays out over months going forward. >> let me ask you about these pe

and msnbc contributor and former bush-cheney senior adviser, robert trainham.>> i should have. happy super bowl sunday. >> let's go first to firing back here. governor christie's office sent out this e-mail attacking david wildstein. the former christie appointee who said there was evidence that he knew about the closures while it was going on. robert, what is the point of this e-mail? is it a start political move or does it create more attention and just prolong the scandal? >> i think it draws more attention to the issue. here's why. david wildstein's lawyer's letter doesn't glean any new light. we'll see if there's any new evidence there. but what it does do politically, in terms of chris christie e-mail, it underscores that he really is somewhat of a bully here. not only does he push back he pushes back hard. he goes all the way back to david's high school years and so forth and really does question his integrity and character. it's really interesting, alex because i've never seen a politician do this before with the exception of bill clinton when he said i
