and michael steele, former rnc chairman, and also an msnbc political analyst. good to have all of you with me on a friday afternoon. naveed, let me start with you. you are quite familiar with russian intelligence techniques. based on this newest revelation about precisely who was in the room for that meeting, what does that tell you? >> well, it tells me that it follows a pattern that makes sense. that this would be, in fact, a russian operation. and that pattern is the fact that they use what we would term a cutout. look, the russians have a very robust and large network that i believe operates the united states. i had personal experience with these sort of questionable dotted line people that kind of trace back to the kremlin. so it would make sense to use someone who was a trusted entity. but then again, allowed the russians to have, well, plausible deniability. of so that totally falls in line with their portfolio of how they use this stuff. >> a cutout. what's a cutout? >> a cutout specifically means it is someone who you can -- as we would call the circle

msnbc legal analyst, katie feng, also with us.rom the parole board tomorrow? >> reporter: it's made up of four commissioners, meeting in carson city, 130 miles from the prison. they're going to be gathering around 10:00 a.m., and they're going to video conference o.j. simpson into that hearing. he is going to be able to address them directly, make his case for why he thinks he is deserving of parole. we expect they will ask him several questions about his disciplinary action while incarcerated. they'll be asking him about drug and alcohol use, possible gang affiliations. what they're trying to do is a risk assessment, really, to determine how much risk there is in giving o.j. simpson parole. after about 30 minutes, they're going to conclude that hearing and then go behind closed doors and make their decision. we should know whether that parole is granted or denied within about an hour of that hearing. so all of this is going to be happening rather quickly. >> if they decide to grant him parole, when does he walk out of the prison?

he is also an msnbc contributor.te about president trump's options concerning the attorney general today. walk us through how the president could get rid of jeff sessions if he does not decide to quit. >> absolutely. so the premise for even understanding why this is an issue is that jeff sessions stands in the way of a trump loyalist who could take control of the russia investigation and either curtail it or possibly even fire a special counsel bob mueller, who currently is under the control and oversight of the deputy attorney general because jeff sessions recused himself from the russia campaign interference matter. and so if trump could put someone new in as an attorney general who is not recused he could take over control of that investigation and bring it to a close, essentially. that means jeff sessions is kind of collateral damage potentially in the white house's attempt to push back against this investigation. if sessions does not permit himself to be bullied into voluntarily resigning, the president can fire
