he said he would not interview with msnbc.ployees saying for as many experts who say mask wearing should take place, he can find just as many experts who say that they shouldn't. health experts we talked to would debate that mask wearing is effective in stopping coronavirus. the sheriff was insistent that anytime his deputies are out on patrol, they are not to be wearing masks. if anybody tries to argue with deputies or berate them, they are to say they are not allowed to wear a mask by the sheriff and will not do so and instructed to walk away and let the sheriff deal with it. also, another controversial move originally. the sheriff said anybody who came into the sheriff's office to sit in the lobby and have business taken care of had to remove their masks once they entered the lobby. the local newspaper here is reporting that it has softened a little bit. people have to take off the mask so a security camera can see their face and they can put it back on. kendis, it is certainly a different situation here after the city of o

attorney, law professor and msnbc kribcontrib. what does this first step tell you about the focus of it and what more do you think we could expect to see given barr said there would be more developments? >> you know, on the one hand this is very common. early in an investigation you'll see someone prosecuted. the presumption is they will be cooperating and helping prosecutors look into other activity. at the same time, this is very unfamiliar and very disturbing to see an attorney general out front, promising results in what can only be perceived as a political investigation particularly where the president has also promised results and said the attorney general can be the hero if he does the right thing here. this is not a normal case. it's not proceeding in an appropriate way. we're awfully close to that 60-day deadline that doj observes as the cut offline where political prosecution shouldn't proceed but this attorney general looks like he's going ahead full steam. >> let's listen to what the president said now that you mention

jonathan: yesterday in his interviews with andrea mitchell on msnbc and anderson cooper on cnn, he did just that. if i am listening to you correctly, he needs to keep doing it on a daily if not hourly basis. do republican voters and particularly in the president's supporters, do they care about the nuance we are talking about when it comes to protests? henry: republican voters support peaceful protest. what republican voters are upset about is the constant overemphasis of the peaceful nature of the protests and downplaying of violence they see daily in most television media. that is a regular meeting you see in republican internet circles, khairat or screenshot that protests are wrapped in violence, and you see fire in the background of the person. republican voters want somebody who will come out and say it is never ok to break the law, 100%. . full stop. and do it in a language that makes the people who are perpetrating these violence is -- perpetrating this violence recognizing that person making the statement has no sympathy for them and characterizes them is what they are, lawbrea
