it's burning in the foothills just east of mt. diablo.about 375 acres so far since being first reported late yesterday afternoon. earlier this hour we found out it's now 80% contained. >>> ktvu's at the command center this morning with some of the good news about the efforts to fight the fire there. craig, what can you tell us now? >> reporter: good morning, pam. can't hear you too well but i did think i caught the end of that. overnight you heard dave mention 80% containment which is actually great because just at nightfall yesterday they had 5% containment. they did a lot of work overnight in terms of getting a line around this fire. one of the reasons is the humidity. humidity actually worked well in their favor. let's go up to news chopper 2 and take a look at some of the current conditions from the chopper right now you can see kind of hazy and smoky up there. look very closely you can probably see three separate locations of the fire. it's kind of ironic though because cal fire won't put up its own helicopters for another three hour

mt's tre yte. nola os. mtnoesicon yte. blonha cdidet d sissar. aswh mte. >>> welcome back. a federal judge has stopped the flow of federal funds to labs working on stem cell research. alison burns joins us from our washington, d.c. news reasonable with what the judge's ruling means. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, pam. scientists say this ruling is a shock. it is going to mean that work is halted at dozens of labs across the country. president obama lifted the ban on federally funded embryonic stem cell research last year, but yesterday a federal judge put the ban back in place. the judge questioned how the embryos were destroyed and was not satisfied with the government's answer. we talked with art torres, who says california labs will still get state funding, but the ruling is devastating to people who have been waiting for the promise of stem cell therapy. >> what you have in this situation is that you have the ability to continue to do that but not under this order in any other state except for california, that is what is so descras truss for the future.

mt. vacaville looking good. everywhere you go out there you can look in the distance and see the bay as well. keeping it clear. the fog kind of hugging the coastline out at ocean beach grey skies and not much in the way of sunshine there and looks like we will probably see that low cloud and fog deck stretch well onshore. my good friend off the coastline. you can see right here. that little rotation in the clouds. that eddy system is what is bringing the fog back into the coastline right now. it will help move it further onshore probably deepening somewhat and likely see drizzle out toward the coastline. with that in mind if you do plan on traveling around the bay area this evening we are looking pretty good except right at the beaches. you've got the grey skies, breezy conditions, clouds there. inside the bay starting to see fog make its way through the golden gate and breezy conditions there too. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. valleys looking at 70s, 80s. lots of clear skies heading through the evening. tomo
