on the left, mt. hamilton. on the right, snow falling on mt. diablo. we are under a weather alert. we start with cheryl hurd on highway 17. the warning for the morning commute. >> reporter: that's right. chp officers are very worried about slick roads. caltrans workers are stationed here ready to spring into action in case something happens on the roadway. sometime we're seeing officers escorting cars and trucks off the mountain. making sure they don't speed. that's happening up here. there's no escorting cars on mt. hamilton road. drive at your own risk. snow is falling up there. that's why the road leading to the top of the mountain is closed. when you get there, there's lots and lots of snow. several feet of it. snow is expected in the santa cruz mountains as well. maybe not as much as you see here but we talked to a woman who lives in the santa cruz mountains and works in a restaurant along highway 17. >> we have a lot of accidents up here. we see them every day with the restaurant west see them here. somebody driving too fast, not slowing down and they spin out and cause the a

mt. tam, mt. hamilton, mt. tam, mt.highway 17 are all going to be good areas of seeing the possibility of more snow, especially in through the next couple of hours until about 10:00 a.m. so that's when we're expecting that advisory to expire. in fact, we already saw some overnight, and here peace what we're dealing with, low snow levels, you could see right through the 9:00/10:00 a.m. hour. it kind of stops, you could see the system begins to trail off but look at mt. hamilton. we've got a good mixture through there. look at how the sierra is doing. we're expecting to keep that winter storm warning through about 10:00 p.m. and a lot of the roads are completely closed off because of those dangerous travel conditions so if you planned to or have family up there, they probably will have the best shot of driving down maybe tomorrow once that storm warning expires. we're going to be seeing additional snow accumulations through today. here is a look at your hour-by-hour outlook. we have instability out there, pockets of rain
