a joint board made up of mta officials and of local 258 officials. their actions resulted in a group of workers being singled out and left out. therefore, we were each denied a monetary payment of $1,880. it was paid out last december 23, 2011. there was a total of 155 operators who received $1,880 each. they were actively working as transit operators in 1984. some of whom were still working in december of 2011. and some who retired in 2009 through a 2011. this group also received $1,880. this $1,880 that was received by some operators was the result of a 1984 cost of living adjustment that was placed into the trust fund, and has earned interest for the past 28 years. that totals approximately $292,000. as i stated in my opening comments, we were all muni drivers in 1984. this is the key to our agreements. where are our checks? we want our money, too. we are not looking for a handout. we all worked hard for this money. it was in the 250 a mou. why were we left out? i was told by a trusty that it was logistically impossible to locate those still in th

in fact, when the mta board approved the environmental report, this was the only project that was not approved by the board. we fully expected the project was moving forward, but recently, we were approached by the department of public works with a piece of additional intermission, that due to community opposition, the project would not proceed in its current form. the glitch is these federal funds have a timely use requirement that needs to be met, or we may jeopardize the use of the funds in san francisco, essentially losing them. the bind we are in right now, the department of public works, in partnership with the mta, have come to us with suggestions for three projects for which this money could be reprogrammed. of course, when we are talking about reprogramming money to safeguard it, we are talking about projects that are designed, environmentally cleared, and can absorb the money in some fashion. the project's proposed to receive the money include the cesar job as streetscape project. the second street sfgo signal project and the market/haight district improvement process. essen

mta. next is our fare evasion program. we have 36 inspectors to check for proof of payment systemwide. this was one of the things that i changed when i came on board at mta. i spent quite a bit of time and read the 2009 controller study on our fare evasion program as well as the follow-up study, and really looked at the things they suggested and found that many of them made sense. for a while, we were utilizing inspectors on problematic lines, and i really believe, after discussing it with mr. mason, that we really needed to be everywhere in our system. no matter where you ride transit in our city, you should have the expectation that you could be asked for proof of payment. we made these changes shortly after i took over the fare inspectors, shortly around august or the end of august. now, what is happening is our inspectors are in a different police district every day, and their saturation operations are in a different location every time. i am very pleased with the results of this. i have gotten a lot of community feedback. people that were never asked for their proof of payment are now being asked, and i kind of say the proof is in the pudding
