mt. tamm at 35. gusts at about 20 to 50 miles an hour. as we go throughout the rest of the day we're going to see our winds in the valleys still staying very calm and for our higher elevations especially in the north bay we will see the winds staying strong even into the late morning hours. but we are expecting some improvement as we go into this afternoon into the evening. that's when the red flag warning will be dropped as we see winds subside. notice, also, the winds will shift and a southerly wind will bring in slightly more humidity. right now that humidity is very low at about 17% in livermore. we're staying in that area around moraga, the humidity at about 16%. the very low humidity allows fire to spread. thankfully they got containment there and we don't see anything else going on. mike, you are tracking the roads around the area. >> the merrill fire and here in moraga, highway 24 and 680. we talk about the walnureek interchange and the ctunnel whih remains open. the power shutoff in the area is making it dark and tough for evacua

mt. diablo 50, gusty there and the altamont pass a wind gust of 16 so it drops off significantly to the south of mt. diablo. air quality is another issue, if you have breathing problems it's going to be tough today especially in areas where we see the orange dots that shows higher amounts of particulate matter in the air from wildfire smoke and the yellow dots is moderate air quality. it looks pretty good for the south bay today due to the wind direction and so our temperatures start out very cold this morning, in fact for tomorrow morning, in parts of the north bay there will be some frost advisories in effect and we're seeing frosty conditions this morning. we're also seeing a much more of a breezy wind coming through concord, oakland, as well as san francisco, keeping those temperatures now in the low 50s. as we go throughout the rest of the day, let's go through our hour by hour outlook showing our temperatures and what to expect. we're in the low 60s at noon today for many of our mic

we've hit 44 miles per hour at mt. diablo.us mile per hour gusts as you head closer to the coastline. all in all, we're on the cusp of this event. once we hit 9:00 tonight through 8:00 tomorrow morning, we'll really be in the peak of this wind here. for the higher elevations. gusts possible up to 55 miles per hour. the low elevations only gusts of 20 on average. we can track this wind, i really like to show this. so you can see the focus of the worst wind. we have a lot of things going on here. the arrows, it shows the direction of the wind, primarily a north and easterly wind. it's very dry. the number is the wind gust speed. then you'll notice the colors as well. that's going to be some of the top gusts that you'll notice across the higher elevations. there's the key at the top. the brighter the color, the reds and the magentas. 58 p.m., ramps up. by 11:00 p.m. tonight, likely see gusts up into the north bay. notice in the south bay, it's really calm down there at the lower elevations. through tomorrow morning, it's all abou

we had a maximum wind gust at mt. diablo at 60 miles an hour. right here at mt. st. hour. those are the kind of winds that fanned the kincade fire. i want to give you the latest information. we continue to see wind gusts of 45 miles per hour where the kincade fire started and for some of the surrounding higher elevations. that's continuing to push some fire growth off to the south. that was the big thing. with those major wind gusts earlier today, we saw this fire grow with hot spots down to healdsburg, also windsor and as i've been mentioning, calistoga, you have those hot spots just to the north. you could actually see some embers move your way. be ready for maybe some evacuations. just have your plan in place. i think right now, as we head into about 5:00 in the morning, we could still have 30 to 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts. stay alert and be ready. now, what about the wind pattern? you know, we had this wind moving in. what caused the wind. it was all about this area of low pressure. i do think as we hit tomorrow, that low pressure moves off towards the east and

mt. diablo this morning and our high fire danger and the red flag warning will end at 11:00. as we look at our wind forecast, we have the small break of the winds calming down and mostly out of the north to northwest but when the winds shift later today that will carry the smoke from the kincade fire down to the rest of the bay area. so it is going to once again make it unhealthy for the rest of the day. a calm wind during the overnight hours. but then an increase in the wind starting in the north bay first and then as we go into the rest of the day, our winds will start to become really gusty, mostly nor the north bay and east bay but by wednesday morning the rest of us will have gusty winds. this is what is going on. so we had the first low and cold front that brought us the high winds yesterday. there is another one right behind that and so when you have low pressure close to high pressure it makes the air flow from high to low pressure and then the circulation around that also creates

one more live view from mt. tam. you can see the haze looking down on to the bay. an these are our forecast features. we'll have clear skies and chilly conditions inland overnight. sunny and mild and warm tomorrow with gradual cooling beginning on sunday. let's take a look at the wind gust animation starting at 7:00 this evening. notice that the winds will be very, very light. in fact, by midnight tonight, many locations will have wind speeds between zero and about 5 miles per hour. that's good news. and that picture won't change much going into the early morning hours at the start of the commute. so good news for the decreasing fire danger. but the relative humidity also remains dangerously low. so that's a consideration. overnight, look for clear skies, and again, chilly conditions in the north bay valleys where lows will drop into the upper 30s at ukiah and lakeport, and most other locations we'll see lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. tomorrow's highs under sunny skies, about 74 at half moon bay. 76 here in san francisco. right around the bay shoreline mainly up

but we are looking at this morning some of the winds reaching 60 miles per hour and up to 57 in mt. diablo. and atlas peak, a gust of 76 and st. helena had a gust at 58. so it was high and enough to fan the flames so it was good even with that they were still able to work on that fire and get more containment. we're not seeing the smoke drifting into san francisco right now. but as the winds get lighter throughout the day, there will be some drifts of smoke coming in. we're looking at moderate air quality for the bay and the coast and the inland east bay and the south bay and santa clara looking at good air quality into the afternoon. most of the smoke will be in the north bay. so we look at where the smoke is blowing and it is still blowing directly off the coast. and that is the reason why we're seeing those blue skies right now. but there will be the potential once again that as the winds start to calm down, we could see the smoke moving in later today. and we'll continue to monitor the air quality, i'll talk about the cold temperatures on the way, and i'll have a look at your ha

is where the winds will be higher so that is what we're seeing now looking at our higher elevations, mt. diablo so far a high wind gust of 45 miles per hour and just to the east of ukiah in cow mountain a wind peak of 31 miles per hour and altamont at 26 this morning and east of morgan hill at 23 and half moon bay at 22. so we're just now starting to see things getting started here and then we'll be monitoring that as we go throughout the day to see how high those winds go. once again we are expecting the winds to stay high mostly in the north bay. mostly higher elevations. but we do expect as the front starts to sag into the bay area, some of the winds increasing for parts of the east bay as well as the south bay and the santa cruz mountains overnight. look at the time line. we're at 3:00 in the morning and we're just starting to see the winds picking up inak as ll as toward livermore around mt. hamilton and then once again the santa cruz mountains. while we areeeing several hours of some pretty high wind gusts in parts of the north bay, this lingers into the day tomorrow. and we could
