we're looking east towards mt. hamilton and you should be able to see at least one large area that is glowing on top of the mountain. that forces one of several fires, 20 of them that are part of this scu complex fire that was labeled by cal fire. started by that lightning storm sunday morning, this past sunday. you have fires burning here in santa clara county as you head north in the sunol area and the preserve and even further north in brentwood and farther east in the central valley in san joaquin county. right now the acreage is at 105,000 acres. yesterday it was at 85,000 and the day before that, 25,000. a lot of growth in that fire and, unfortunately, only 5% contained. now, cal fire called in a lot of mutual aide including from down south in san luis obispo. they put out on twitter. this is a fire crew on top of mt. hamilton. you could see them protecting some historic structures. we know that the fire has burned up there. we know the observatory is up there and we don't know how close it came to the observ

i just received an email from the lick observatory, high atop mt. hamilton on a clear day, you can see the white domes up there, that is the historic observatory. been up there for i believe it's 133 years. anyways, they're going to give us an update earlier today, but they just released this time lapse video. i want you to take a look at this. you can see thep ere and then t flames starts surrounding one of the domes and eventually, the flames subside, the sun comes up, and it's clear. so by all appearances, it appears that the observatory survived. it's hard to tell if there's any damage or maybe smaller structures we're not aware of. we also know that this morning, cal fire reported that zero structures have been damaged or destroyed. and we know that the lick observatory might have the san luis obispo fire department to fix. you can see how steep and hazardous that terrain is. here is the latest from latest is for the scu lightning complex fires, a contra costa, santa clara. so far, it's just over 137,000 acres burned. only 5% containment. prima
