i love the mural on the corner of francis and michigan's street. i just noticed it for the first time -- at the corner of one street. thank you for that. it is really a wonderful testament to what our neighborhood is about. eric, who i do not seen here with us, who has done an amazing work over the years across san francisco. he is a native of this area and has been a resident for many years. he highlights people's struggles and raising awareness for social consciousness. daron, thanks for being here. he has roots in social activism. he is a muralist and teacher, currently a lead instructor at a youth based arts program in the mission. he has nearly all of the way throughout california and down into mexico. also, folks we may not have won four. dan, he woworked on another project. nico, your children? great. he has merrill's all over the world, including in gonna and west africa. there is an avid skateboarder and designer. thank you for your work in our district, and ethan is also a contributor to the project. i just want to say thank you so much f

all of that is going to be wiped out in the mural that is planned as a replacement. someone close to the original mural which was a community process that was contributed to by lots of people over a two-year period called it a sanitized gentrified version of the mural. in all of the meetings that i have attended at the library commission particularly recently and at the art commission, there has been no discussion of the specifics of what the images were in the existing mural and what they respect nor what specifically images are going to be in this sanitized replacement. who was victor hara, a voice filled in the "new york times" december 2002. general augustus were so intent on eliminating all traces of the leftist singer victor hara that torching and executing him was not enough when they seized power in 1973. they also had master tapes of his recordings and concert appearances destroyed. i'll read near the end. i guess it shows that you can kill the singer but not his song. well, in san francisco, the library plans to do just that and that is to kill off the imag

to get rid of, to snuff out all of the murals that exist on the vermont heights branch library is moving ahead with the cooperation of the unseeing, and knowing, apparently, arts commission. at a library commission meeting of july 21, the presenter of the so-called project manager for this project of replacements said we are not going to the art commission with this until september, when i called the art commission late in august. it turned out the visual arts committee had already heard the whole thing, and this person also said it would not be on the consent calendar, but they approved the plans for the demolition of that historic mural, which includes victor, holly, and others, and it did so without having a single presentation from the library, from the artists, or any documentation whatever of the new or old mural. most recently, on august 12, in response to an information request from us, the library commission secretary sent what was sent to the art commission, and it says a member of the community in one of these memos wanted to make sure the members of the visual arts committee

some people wanted to preserve the mural. others wanted to get rid of the mural. and we believe in a dialogue. so we brought together in mediation everyone so we could come to an understanding of what our common ground was and to see if we could agree on certain basic things, and we were able to come up with a solution that makes sense for the entire community. in a sense, it reflected larger issues that are impacting the city as a whole. so, there are issues like that that would require a knowledge of the neighborhood, and knowledge of what is happening on the ground, and knowing the difference is of how all bernal heights may look at an issue vis a vis the mission or portola. as a supervisor, i do have to be able to balance managing citywide issues, which is very important, but at the same time, focusing on the specific needs of your neighborhood. that is really important to us. one of the things we need to prioritize is that making sure we focus on the nuts and bolts of government. a lot of the calls we get involved fixing alights, replacing a pothole. i think
