when it comes to mccain in murkowski, we've seen none be the maverick on repeal and replace. even before we get to those folks, we've seen some republicans on the house side beat really salty. they are trying to derail today's budget vote because they want their tax giveaway caps save and this is part of the delicate dance of tax reporting. lauren: a lot of house members are from the west end without. there was a meeting that was canceled for last night about many of these high tax state members. if the state and local tax deduction were taken away, then put it beyond what the data. listening to the soundbites from senator chuck schumer and will respond on the other side. it gets pretty dramatic again. take a listen. >> they say well, let's just take away deduction for people above 100,000, 200,000, 400,000. each word they say choose between state and local deduction for mortgage election. that one is like taxpayer who will chop your right hand or your left hand off, we will give you a choice. lauren: there be a dramatic here this is all part of the negotiation. >> absolutely

but i want senator murkowski and hassen to ask their questions. what i'll do is first call on murkowski and then senator hassen. if i'm gone by the time you finish, if you could kindly wrap up the committee hearing, whichever one-of you goes last, i would appreciate it. senator murkowski. >> thank you, senator. we do not want you to miss the students out there. i came back because i wanted to ask a question about how we are dealing with the ability, the pretty easy ability of individuals to purchase online, gain drugs, illicit drugs or unfortunately in alaska, we're seeing the purchasing of drugs that have not been -- they've not been rescheduled. and so they're effectively legal to purchase over the internet. and i was at the healing center in bethel just a few months ago and talking with folks about where are people getting their drugs here in a community like bethel where the only way inor out is flying in. and no question about it, they were very open in where they got their drugs, actually naming some of the websites that are out there. it is

part of the problem with people like mccain and murkowski, is the process. they feel like there's hearings on capitol hill and this needs a bigger error. they plan on doing something along those lines. if the president plants to get rand paul on board, he has to drop talk about block grants to states. rand paul doesn't like that. i don't know how they can adjust the formula to get paul on board. they're definitely trying, which includes taking him out to play golf rather often. again today, the president with no apology for cutting the cost-sharing reductions otherwise known as the subsidies to insurance companies. listen here. >> insurance companies have made a fortune with obamacare. a absolute fortune. you know what i did with the cuts at the end, which -- you're talking about hundreds of millions a month going into the pockets of the insurance companies. i'm happy with what i did, a priority of mine. you know this is coming up, the cost of prescription drugs. we're going to get the costs way down. >> something else the president is going to do next week.

senator murkowski has been pushing for anwr drilling for years. a lot about the natural beauty of it, but when it comes to what republicans are talking about, the potential to extract minerals, what do we know the mineral content in anwr? jennifer: government estimates and other estimates are somewhat updated, but it indicates there is significant oil down to there. but we know from seismic expiration is different from what can be found out once you actually drill. this area is known to have a significant amount of oil, the challenges accessing it and whether that is something we want to tolerate. this,the people pushing lawmakers who are supporting this idea really see this revenue is coming from the initial sales of drilling leases. i think there's a real question about whether oil companies will line up in the next 10 years to buy leases in this area if they are made available, given the high cost of development in this area, the frontier area, and the alstom inevitable environmental challenges to any potential lease. democratic senator ed mark
