and could work well with somebody like kerry or max baucus or even patty murray. one reason she's there also is to protect the liberal flank so that liberals can say, okay, she's going to look out for our interests on this committee. that may not bode well for a result, but i think that's one of the reasons she's there. >> john, certainly, if both sides are going into this with thoughts of just how to protect their flanks, that doesn't really bode well at all. when do we anticipate hearing more names on the committee? >> you know, leader mcconnell and the senate republican side has been home in kentucky this week. he said he will appoint serious people. it needs to be done within about a week and a half now. they had two weeks from the president signing the legislation. that will get the speaker's picks, will get representative pelo pelosi's picks on the other side of the house. we know they're going to have politicians, the question is, for example, no one from the gang of six so far in the senate. harry reid deciding to overpass the democrats on the gang of six.

note that there is only one woman on this committee and that's patty murray. you know it's very tough with 12 people to get everything and everyone represented. but that's probably not quite the representation that some would have liked. >> so how important is it that in the legislation that created this, you only need the committee only needs seven votes to get it to congress? >> this, the legislation that created this is remarkable in that it takes away some of the biggest hurdles to getting things done in washington. you don't need the 60 votes in the senate. you bypass the ability of the majority in the house to keep things from coming to the floor. >> or amend it. >> yes, or amend it, no poison pills. no blocking it at all from coming to the floor. so if you just have six all of the sides and plus 1, you can really bring these to the floor and remember there's that sort of damaclese hanging above their heads. the idea of massive cuts across-the-board. >> but you're saying, norm, that all these people are close to their representative leaderships. you're n
