college classrooms, tours of historic sites, archival films and see our schedule of upcoming programs. that's cspan.org/history. >>> friday at 8:00 p.m. eastern we tour new york city's lower east side tenement museumnd crowded conditions in the 19th and early 20th centuries. here's a preview. >> so here we are in the baldisi family home. we've taken a leap forward in time to about 1935 and you'll see that around you in all of these wonderful amenities that the family would have enjoyed. by 1935 this building has electricity so they were able to listen to the radio. they had electric light. and a gas cook top. which is installed here on top of the old coal burning stove. and a sink and a bathtub right here. we see the bathtub right here in the kitchen which is typical of tenements in those days. the family immigrates here after the establishment of ellis island. they had a great deal more bureaucracy to deal with going through the immigration process, not least of which was the united states' immigration quotas, which are on the books in those days. these quotas dictated the number of immigrants who were allowed to come here to the united states based on nationality. there were fewer italians allow

museum of the bible, i encourage tench visit this great museum. thank you, mr. lamborn. mr. lamborn: i would like to recall an incident from my own background, when i was freshman in college, some people talked to me and said do you know what the bible is about? i said yeah, i know all about it. though i realized after a minute went by that that was really a pretty presumptuous answer because i'd never in -- i'd never read anything in the bible. i wonder if this might be true for others listening in today. the only honest thing i could do when i realize id hasn't read any of it, i said i'm going to read the bible for myself. i started by reading the gospel of john in the new testament. and when i read it i scored that i hadn't known at all what the bible was about. i learned that jesus said things like, i am the way, the truth, and the life. no one comes to the father but through me. and i ended up discovering a personal relationship with jesus christ who became my lord and savior. so mr. speaker, i speak from personal experience when i say that it is better to read the bible for one's self and not just take someone else's word for it for what it says my life has been transform
