first, rita lindall, rita and i are both in the same cohort as the music program at uc berkley and we've been saying for 4 years, we need to play music. so we finally made it happen. so, rita lindall, and then masuro koga. mas and i have been playing together for a very long time, so much so that we wore the same shirt without having to talk to each other about it. mas is in high demand both as a teacher and as a session side man, having played with everybody from anthony brown's asian american orchestra to wane wallace's newest cd. who haven't you played with lately? yeah, he's played with everybody. you can find mas on a lot of different cd's from the local jazz community. this song we're going to do is an air called the brown-haired girl. when i was recording, when i was fortunate to be able to record bridge across the blue, i was telling them i got this air, i got it off the chieftan's album, i'm going to do it on the electric base. he looked at me and said, you're nuts. people are going to go crazy but if you can do it, i'll help you. he gave me this book of airs and went, figure it

projects in four seasons from presenting dance, producing theater, presenting music, having a full scale education program, and having more than 50,000 visitors in the building almost every year. a lot of our emerging artists generate their first projects here, which is great. then we continue to try to support figuring out where those works can go. we have been blessed to have that were produced in new york, go unto festivals, go on to the warsaw theater festival. to me, those are great things, when you see artists who think there is no or else of someone being interested in me being a woman of color telling her story and getting excited about it. that is our biggest accomplishment. artists becoming better artists. what is great about surely coming back to brava, we have this established, amazing writer who has won a slew of awards and now she gets an opportunity to direct her work. even though she is an amazing, established writer, the truth is, she is also being nurtured as a director, being given space to create. >> and the play is described as ceremony and theater meet. in the indigenous tradition, w

programs. we have dance and theater, music and writing, national sciences and technology. we have the arts center, the museums. youth sports is an important topic that i will revisit in the second when we talk about challenges. we have an abundance of sports leagues and camps. we have about 500 courses for kids between the birth -- and some are immediately after birth. they start at nine months to five years. physical activity, arts and culture stimulation, it runs from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. supervisor farrell: there are a lot of programs we want more of, for sure. do you have statistics on usage? how are we guiding metrics and how are we thinking about this? >> we have some very good metrics. we do track our program registrations both on a year-to- year basis and season-to-season basis. march 3 was the first day of registration for the spring registration season. we have 3300 registrations in the first day, 700 more than last year. it was growth of about 14%. that is something we are working on. we want to make sure the class's we are offering -- classes we're offering.
