yeah, my dad, my dad's family, they were armenians living in an area called northern bukovina, of which the flag kept changing. my family very confused about its nationality. and then during world war two, they spied on the they got caught, family members were lost both to the nazis and to the soviets and that built in my dad and i think i inherited just deep suspicion of ideologues of every flavor and then i after word he fled to yugoslavia. he was in a concentration camp there and a french diplomat kind of broke the rules. save my dad's life. and that was very much part of family law. and that shaped me because periodically when you are a reporter in the field, you encounter people in great distress and. one of the journalistic principles, you know, is that we don't get involved. we're observers. and yet, you know, i if that diplomat had a pri had applied those principles, i would not be here. and so i was always a little conflicted. my ethical obligation as to my tribe of journalists and also my ethical obligations to fellow humans. and this was really tested particular one time in c
