of us on the outside we saw their stereotype raised its head again during a recent round of stories covering the us government shutdown over the holiday season everyone from usa today to n.b.c. news of the washington post reported that while federal prison guards were working without pay prisoners were treated to a holiday banquets and feasts usa today noted that some prisoners tucked into a christmas spread of herb dusted cornish game cornbread dressing gravy rice pilaf and assorted pies and a week later they were in the new year with grilled steak black eyed peas green beans macaroni and cheese biscuits and even more pies this led to calls this led to call them prison union chief joe rojas exclaiming to the media that this is appalling we're not getting paid in the inmates are eating steak the inmates know what's going on they know about the shutdown and they are laughing at us. many of taken the media to task for reporting these events including former cia officer john kiriakou served twenty three months in a federal prison after blowing the whistle on the u.s. torture program he joins us now to discuss some of these myths and the controversy surrounding the treatment of prisoners and their food in

cam miller's take the news from behind it has come out that over new years many mainstream outlets including n.b.c. the washington post usa today and highlights magazine took china out of their holiday schedule to do the lord's work and by that i mean of course thrashing prison inmates for having the nerve to eat dinner the washington post ran with i've been eat like a boss federal prisoners serve steak by unpaid guards during shutdown how dare they everyone knows prisoners in this great nation should be served only one kind of meat mystery all right that is it really is good for them it's good for inmates to exercise their minds by trying to figure out what kind of meat that is. but i agree with the washington post n.b.c. usa today these prisoners should be more harshly punished for the government shutdown they had nothing to do with i really really anti-government they didn't even vote for say that's another perfect prisoners are living high on the hog while they get all the cool stuff they don't have to vote for it's gone by politicians. they get all the good. stuff. but this goes to show our mainstream media doesn't just manufacture consent for war they manufacture
