join ing me now is the chairman of the board of the naacp. do you think distributing books is the right approach to this issue. >> it's an approach that's important because it points out that we cannot allow people to take literature away from our children. we can't allow them to deny the experience of read aring a book that talks about the history of people. not just black folks, but people from the native american, h hispanics, we can't to learn what has happened in this country that has made this country. >> then counterargument from republicans in florida is that they are not trying to prevent students from learning history, but rather that part of the curriculum was weighed down by what governor delaware season fits referred to as political indoctrination. he objected to studies relating stories about the abolition of prisons, courses that involve the black lives matter movement, queer theory is another example. what's your response to those who believe that a course about black history can be taught without including those issues? >> yo

the oakland naacp lead the recount effort arguing confusion about the city's ranked choice voting system. but according to a new report so far, there's been no recount conducted by the alameda county registrar of voters. reports are also saying that the register voters said this week that it's pretty much certain that this recount will never happen. we spoke with mayor sheng tao on kron. 4 news at noon today to get her reaction. the alameda county has determined there's no question on the outcome of the mayor's race in oakland. and it looks like >> there will be no recount. as you stated. and this is the decision of the county do think it's important that we respect the process. we've seen far too many examples of elected officials refuse to do that in america. and election officials have made their determination and i'm going to respect that. >> we have reached out to the alameda county registrar of voters are waiting for a response. as soon as we get one, i'll bring it to you. the recall effort, though, did shed a spotlight on how ranked choice voting works in oakland elections. and co

naacp is calling on the board of supervisors to reject the one time payments and instead make investments in the black community that will have positive effects for generations . the organization say the money should be put towards education , jobs, housing, health care and a cultural center released a statement saying in part quote, we strongly believe that creating and funding programs that can improve the lives of those who have been impacted by racism and termination is the best path forward toward equality and justice. a final committee report is due to the board of supervisors in june. in antioch, the city manager is now on administrative leave the east bay times reports, the city council decided to make that move at last night's council meeting. cornelius johnson, who is a former san francisco police commander, was given a two year contract last october. he says he was not included in the closed session meeting so he is unsure why he was placed on leave. johnson says state law requires an agenda item for personnel issues during closed sessions, but he was never notified. the conduc
