nadler threatening to send a subpoena to william barr's way.eality is they don't have good options to make him show up. >> he won't lose his charge card privileges at the giant supermatter. they have limited ability to do this. doesn't matter which party runs congress or the administration, these things tend to get worked out in the long term because the courts can only do so much and are very reluctant to get involved in what they see interbranch rivalry. what's happening right now the justice department's senior staff and nadler's staff are trying to reach some accommodation to see -- barr's objection to what the justice department says is he's happy to go up and be questioned by members of congress and if they want to go into executive session and have the staff interview him okay. in terms of the public testimony he wants to be treated like any other congressional witness. he's happy to answer questions from members of congress but not to be treated differently and have the staff interview him. >> by being treated differently their proposal

but here's what nadler had to say in response. take a look . >> i will give him time to change his mind, but if we cannot reach an accommodation, we will have no choice but to issue subpoenas for these materials. >> of course, talking there about the attorney general william barr. now, of course, this vote is simply to authorize these subpoenas. so, the timing of when they would go out is entirely up to jerry nadler. that's what he's referring to there. we are going to take this step and make sure we can do this and i'll watch what happens and if i need to, i'll go ahead and do that. keep in mind, hallie, some risk here. certainly is something of a threat. it's tempting to, you know, push, use what leverage they do have and if they actually do have to go this route, it is not necessarily a sure win. it will be a prolonged court battle and congress has a mixed record in winning fights like these in the court. so, just remember that there are some risks for democrats in going down this path. it's not necessarily a guarantee just bec
