even has his own militia structure out of najaf. but when you're competing against 100-something iranian-backed shia militias and they are pushing this and they have all the cash and nobody else is coming in saying, hey, here's a little bit of extra money and political support, it makes things very, very hard. we are now heading in the direction that khomeini was quite literal plotting. how do we counter that, though? this is the biggest thing. i hate saying this, but, you know, i'd rather just, you know, get it out there. it means the united states, if we're actually interested in this, means we have to play kind of dirty. it means sometimes backing certain radical shia elements. there are other radical shia elements. some of them won't even talk to us, look at muktar al sadr. he's had plenty of problems with the iranians. i wouldn't like to co-opt him even if he's not welcome to it, if that means he'll cause problems for the iranians and their ideology. do we have the stomach of that in this room where we'll get into the microcosm
