we'll take you out to washington where we're joining david nakumura. what are you looking at today?it's interesting. it's martin luther king's birthday. there's new evidence of a famous phone call that john f. kennedy made to ka ret at that king to make the ground move to get martin luther king out of prison where he had been arrested shows that, in fact, there's an interview with martin luther king that surfaced that said that he did not actually believe that kennedy's phone call was the only force at work. it's interesting, that phone call actually helped president kennedy win the white house because it mobilized african-american voters. this interview that i guess was done with a tennessee man who was writing a book about racism. martin luther king says there were other factors at work. it's 50 years ago now. this was a mutually beneficial phone call from john f. kennedy to the family. i think robert kennedy worked behind the scenes to help get him out of prison. a lot of people credit him for that. we'll see if that changes people's views though. >> really interesting. >>> you'v

joining me for our first look at politics is david nakumura. >> hi, veronica. >> big day in washingtonss gets back to work. let's go ahead and look at their to do list. there's quite a to do list obviously. let's start with the extension of unemployment benefits. what do you think? >> absolutely. that's going to be the first thing as you mentioned in your segment leading up to this. the big test for the democrats is to find the extra five votes. this is the democrats having support from the white house. the president will get out there on tuesday and he'll make a public statement with foejts at the white house who benefit from this. this will put a lot of pressure on republicans. that will be number one. a km of other things congress needs to do. more appropriation spending bills. that would detail how much each agency will get. looking ahead, they've pledged to get by that this time. looking farther, there's a few other things like immigration, bigger things that have been trouble in the past that some people still think may be able to get done in this congress. obviously there's the
