a year ago this week, it was ronald and nancy reagan's anniversary. were married march 4, 1952. it is a very special week of remembrance. i'm going to share reflections of my times and my years working for president reagan. but before i start with that, i wanted to start with a little bit about the book itself. how many of you in here have written a book or intend to write a book some day? don't be laughing. i'm sure there's remarkable students in here. okay. a few hands. for me, writing a book was very much a process of extremes. writing a book starts with ideas in your head, thoughts in your heart, comes through your fingers. onto a keyboard. magic little characters appear on a screen. eventually, maybe you get paper that you put together with a paper clip or a binder. ultimately, it winds up like this. it's like a magical, incredible process. because of my experience as the executive assistant to the president, i was used to a role behind the scenes. i wasn't really sure how i felt about writing a book and putting myself out there in a visible way.
