thank you, naomi. ed reiskin, supervisor carmen chu, micro-deputy directors, thank you all for coming out. i am honored and humbled that i have spent to lead the department. i feel really good that we had a very good place with the city's capital planning that was led by mayor lee many years ago. we were able to schedule our projects and were able to pass a bonds. as you heard, with the hospital, we just started work on the cruise terminal where we actually got the team to continue the demolition to bring that project to fruition. we have the new police headquarters down on third street. we have several libraries, market street. we have so many great project. i feel very fortunate to come in with this gift of being able to work with all the public works staff, with the staff from other agencies, mta, the police department, and all these city agencies. most importantly, as the new director, i cannot forget where i came from. i did come from the community, and i am a very strong community organizer, and

over the course of several weeks, we continue to meet with matt and naomi. it became our first choice before we even heard from the other schools we were applying to. the reason is the approach that the school is taking with childhood development, the location is great for the wife and die. and we simply think that there is a strong need for child care. the owners here have done everything they need to do to comply with city requirements. there are other retail space is available, so if there were some silver bullet retail business that was going to come men and revitalize twentieth street, i'm not sure it hasn't happened up until now. a i am quite certain the owners want to act in their own interests to establish a successful business so that if there were a great opportunity to develop a thriving business, i am certain they will do that. the suitability of the location, i saw the properties throughout construction and i worked in risk-management consulting and i assure you that i wouldn't put my two and a half year-old in a facility that was unsafe or appr

the first thing that we -- the first best thing that we did was hiring naomi kelly. i am glad she has a new position in san francisco. if any of you are here because we -- you are upset about what we did and you want to bend, i suggest calling willie brown. he appointed me to the taxi commission. i also want to thank mayor newsom for the work that he did. if you want to thank someone for bringing someone like myself or naomi, you will want to thank mayor brown on that, too. people that know me know that i could go on for hours about this. i could talk about the collaboration that happened between the taxicab companies, the city, manufacturers. this would not have happened without john james, who was the liaison between the manufacturers, taxi industry. there were plenty of others who also helped. i had real help from lots of people -- we would not be here without you former mayor newsom. your persistence and passion for this issue, i deeply feel that. there is not enough i could say about when you have done over the years. i hope this is just the first of many events
