at the cbs broadcast center, i'm naomi ruchim. >>> good monday morning to you. hopefully you're having a wonderful holiday season. we are looking at a wet start to our day. on hi-def doppler, you can see the showers pushing across the bay area. as we zoom in, you can see the light rain coming in over san francisco, across the golden gate and the bay bridge. as we look to the east bay and the tri-valley, looking at a wet star to our day right along 580 near livermore and pleasanton, also by san ramon and across the peninsula from san mateo, palo alto and into sunnyvale with a few showers lingering in san jose this morning. we are looking at anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch to about .1 inch of rain. here is a live look at our salesforce tower camera as we look east to the bay bridge. temperatures mainly in the to upper 40s to low 50s at this hour with those showers. it is all because of a cut off low pressure system bringing that wet weather. this weather system will exit the region later on today and that means drier weather ahead. as we time it out for

naomi ruchim is here with more. >> reporter: good morning. a record setting day on wall street. gains came after the president signed it into law. the nasdaq rose 94 points and the s&p 500 added 32 points. another coronavirus vaccine is now under final stage testing in the u.s. and mexico. novavax has started a large late stage study after delaying the trial twice because of issues in scaling up the manufacturing process. the drug developer will enroll up to 30,000 volunteers. the novavax is set to deliver 100 million doses in the u.s. early next year if the vaccine is proven to be effective and safe in the trial. >>> today boeing's 737 max will take flight again in the u.s. for the first time in nearly two years. it will be a round trip flight from miami to new york. more will be phased in next month. it comes after the faa approved changes made to the jet. >>> and amazon said it had a record-breaking holiday season. the world's largest ecommerce retailer announced it delivered more than 1.5 billion items around the world. that figure only includes shipped merchandise like toys

naomi ruchim joins us live now from new york with more on that .morning. >> reporter: trading has been underway now for a little more than 10 minutes. things are starting up pretty good to kick off the final week of 2020. the dow is up 180 points to start off the day. likely some good news because the president has signed that stimulus package. also, checking the tech sector. but nasdaq is up 90 points. green all around as we head into new year. kroger health is hiring nearly 1000 people as they get set to provide the coronavirus vaccine at its pharmacy and clinics. the job includes pharmacy technicians and other positions to support operations and administration of the covid vaccine. cincinnati-based grocery chain did not say when the vaccines might become available but it is working with federal and state health departments. >> thank you for that. >>> holiday retail sales are reportedly up this year, that is compared to last year. sales are up about 3% this year. online spending is up 49% in the pandemic appears to be boosting sales of furniture
