you can see impacts in naples and those areas. that's a different impact than what we ended up seeing. they worked quickly to provide people shelter and the opportunity to do that. i would point out, you had people evacuating from tampa to southwest florida. that happened because of how they were following the track of the storm. >> two major concerns of people, running water and electricity. do you have information on whether the restoring of water will be expected? >> what you've done on the water. they identified the break the day after the storm. they requested the state enlist federal support. we got the army corps of engineers. they made the request at 3:00 in the morning on thursday. the army corps was here from jacksonville thursday afternoon. that's a six-hour drive under good conditions. they're there and working with the county water utility and other municipal utilities. and army guard of engineers is helping the corps. and at the end of the day, troubleshooting that is really significant. once you get that going, ever

people are rebuilding in the naples area.in so they can rebuild but overall, what we saw, right after the storm was some investors came to florida and attempted to make offers on some of these properties thinking that the homeowners would take them but the homeowner says, no, no, we know what our land is worth and they're waiting it out. we have seen now an influx of buyers coming back into the market, especially as it gets cooler in the north. so florida, as a whole, as you discussed in your past segment, 50% of the hottest markets are in florida. i believe that trend is going to continue. i do think that affordability is a main issue, neil, nationwide. it is something we should definitely attend to. they say that homeowners are cost burdened when 30% of their income goes towards housing and on a national level, that percentage is 38%. so 38% of their income is going towards housing. there are areas like san francisco where that percentage is 83%. that coupled with the cost of gas, health care, everything else is definitely

you also have charlotte county had damaged north north part of naples and collier county. the one of the things that we're working on and is having staged all the power and everything is the restoration of services right now statewide, 85% of customers have power and the main outages are of course in lee and charlotte counties have the most as well as hardy. but then you also have about half out in collier, you have about half out in sarasota and then it really gets better in many other parts of the state until you get seminoles, about a third out of 40% out. evolution is about 50% out, flagler is probably about 40 to 50% out, but then it gets much better as you get to st john's in jacksonville, nassau county. and so there was over 42,000 folks staged, they went in immediately, they went in immediately to try to minimize those disruptions and really they're adding more customers back online every hour. i think it's probably kevin, would you say about 100,000 every hour or two? so we feel good about most of that. i would say that the biggest challenge with power restoration

what is the status of that in naples? >> well, we're happy to say that we have had a chance to inspect every single structure that had significant damage and some that were completely destroyed. we did conduct a number of rescues the day of the storm at its peak and were able to get to everyone who called for help. at this point we don't have any confirmed fatalities within the city. but we have not had a chance to talk to everyone at this point. >> do you have a sense yet of -- do you have a sense yet of how many people living in your city aren't going to be able to get back into their homes, to return to their homes? >> um, it is a great question. we're still trying to ascertain a more finite number. but based on our visual observations and the fact that we received eight to nine feet of surge and knowing the elevation here in naples, there was a significant amount of homes and in fact an entire neighborhood was submerged with three feet of water. some areas got six to seven feet of water. i would guess it is probably h

neil: i want to go to theresa, the naples, florida, mayor. playing out in one region, city, one after another. mayor, how are things looking in naples right now? >> amazingly well. after such destruction. we're now, have approximately 680, almost 700 of our properties are severely damaged but that's nothing compared to the loss of life or those that are experiencing here. the lack of electricity in trying to clean up, what damage they have and clean their homes, just total destruction. you have to clean out everything. you have to get rid of your carpet, everything that was touched by water. then you go into the next phase of carpet, of, taking out that drywall, replacing it. we're approximately, you know, $700 million right now? neil: wow. >> in that damage. and then total value could be up to two billion. neil: i'm wondering, mayor, how your folks are reacting those who have been able to get back to their homes. that is a dicey proposition. maybe you can tell us. >> they go back because it is their homes. they're tearing out what they can.
