we were the nascar pit crew of the 1860's.would take care of the canon wheels -- cannon wheels, wagon wheels. the coopers, the ones who would work on barrels, fixing and repairing barrels. we also had a harness makers. and of course, the blacksmith, whose primary job, as i said, was to repair items. the biggest example would be the farriers. for example in our artillery battery, we have approximately 150 horses, so there are more forces than men. so, they have a really big job. so, i have heated up this metal so i'm going to forge it to a point on the anvil using a three-pound hammer. i'm looking for a nice orange color. we come underneath, and i kind of get in the shade, you can see the aren't color. -- the orange color. i just want to bring this to a point. so, i hammer a few times on one side, than a few times on the other. -- then a few times on the other. as you may see, it is beginning to taper to a point. as i get that orange color, i have to -- as i lose that orange color, i have to put it in the forge and heated up so

as folks are down there for nascar, setting up staying overnight it's 75 degrees with wind coming in off of the bay and right at the shore temperatures are only in the mid 60'sider scope here you see some of the downpours and thunderstorms kind of popping up through the virginias and the carolinas. they'll remain there overnight tonight and through much of the day tomorrow but a cold front in the midsection of the country will start to push everything to the east and also from the north to the south for sunday afternoon and sunday evening. but for the next 12 hours patchy clouds tonight. it does stay mild, 63 to 67 with that wind changing back out of the southerly direction. that will start to increase the humidity after midnight and then again tomorrow like the last couple of days upper 80's for highs inland. the humidity will come back. there could even be a scattered downpour, thunderstorm in the poconos saturday but for the delaware valley, the lehigh valley, it is looking dry and then that front inches closer and starts to close in sunday afternoon from the north to the south. so if you're having outdoor plans on sunday and you're south of philadelphia

we were the nascar pit crews of the 1860's. working with us would be carpenters that would repair the sides of the wagons. the wheel repairs, people who would work on barrels, and also the harness makers and of course the blacksmith whose primary job was to repair items. as an educator, i think for the younger generation coming up this is the most important thing for them, getting involved in the community and getting involved in a hobby that you can learn. i've been doing this for over 10 years and every day i learn something new about the civil war. young people cannot forget our history. i know a lot of kids, especially in high school, they have trouble with history and after high school, they start to get into it because they can come to places like appomattox national park and learn about what happened. they become involved. sitting back is one thing, but if you can actually do it and experience it and immerse yourself in it, that is really important for the young generation to not forget. >> the new congressional director
