charleston west virginia 19 now. 25 in nashville, tennessee so there's a lot of cold air that has to be modified and warm before we'll see things warm up enough. so here's what our best estimate is based on computer modeling is. we'll see snow developing midday and start piling up pretty quickly here on the frozen ground with the cold air. but at some point later in the evening, enough warm air should start to mix in some sleet and that could pile up. and then and only when air temperatures at the surface go above 32 degrees will it change to plain rain. will it happen at 6:00? no, it may be 10:00. this is the best estimate based on modeling. at some point, enough warm air will work in. the conditions will slowly improve as we just get plain rain with temperatures warming above freezing overnight into sunday morning. by the time sunday midday arrives, we'll get breaks in the overcast and sunshine on sunday afternoon. one to three inches is what we think right now. three to six to the west. more than six in the mountains. could we change this a bit? steve rudin will have more guidance

freezing rain in nashville, tennessee.ou don't really get used to hear about in the severe weather forecast. a quarter inch of ice so far on the roads according to officials. if you just pan down here you can see what this freezing rain has started to accumulate. it's just hard as a rock. we're here on broadway which is the main thoroughfare in nashville and you see behind me the streets are relatively empty. we have seen a handful of cars and a little bit of traffic this morning. the crews have done their best to try to clear the roads and they spent all weekend salting and brining these streets preparing for the three to six inches of snow predicted over the next 24 hours. with he haven't-- we haven't seen that yet. not as cold as boston for ryan young but people here feeling it. >> i think i can hear people laughing from boston right now. it's dangerous. you should stay off the roads. poor boston. let's head there now and check in with ryan. it's just unbelievable. >> reporter: unbelievable is the right word. 29 degrees

forecasters say nashville, tennessee, could see up to ten inches of snow. our affiliate wtvf is along side the interstate in nashville. good morning. >> good morning, the big story has been the ice. it's been sleeting here in the nashville area nonstop since 4:30. this is going to be the problem. as we come down here you can see thick ice covering the roadways. to the point where i can't pick it up. the sleet has clumped into ice balls all across the ro way in and out of the nashville area you can see just how white it is. in fact the sleet has covered the roadways to the point where you can't even see the lane lines here. the tennessee department of transportation trucks have been out here -- the plow trucks have been out here throughout the morning but the salt and brine is not effective with this amount of sleet. they were expecting a lot of snow. instead we're seeing a lot of ice and to make matters even worse the temperatures here in the nashville area is not expected to get above freezing until the weekend. so this is going to be sticking around for q
