the national hurricane center just released its latest findings. let's check in now with meteorologist bonnie schneider for details on this. bonnie, what do we know? >> well, randi, we have some brand-new information for you here on cnn. the tropical storm threat has actually increased in terms of where it is in florida. we are not only looking at hurricane warnings, but as you can see if you zoom in here, the tropical storm watch is extended northward into sebastian inlet, and it also extends further on the west coast all the way to tarpon springs, and that includes the city of tampa. so, new advisories posted in terms of where the tropical storm warnings are, but we're also, of course, monitoring some changes with the track and changes where we have hurricane warnings. here's a look at the satellite perspective, and you can see right now the winds are still at 60 miles per hour, so that's what we're looking at in terms of intensity, but the forecast does call for intensity to grow with this system as we take a look at the track, and i want to hig

we will take you live to the national hurricane center. lead to the latest on the storm. >> the sender is within less of 100 miles south southeast of the south eastern tip of louisiana. the northwestern fringes of the strongest band around the center are now over southeastern louisiana. gus over 70 miles per hour. you will see more of that kind of wind and heavier rain move onshore of alabama, mississippi and southeastern louisiana. conditions really are going downhill as the afternoon goes on. you can see on the satellite that in the southern part of the circulation and out to the east, there is perhaps a longer period of rain and wind that will occur. the north side has been a little thinner. when the south side comes to short it will really ramp up. when the center comes to shore, that is not the end of the event. it will be kind of the beginning. that is when the rainfall will really start to get solid four hours and hours. the forecast is for perhaps a little more strengthening before the system comes ashore. it could get a little str

the national hurricane center is on high alert, giving hourly briefings on isaac. a tropical storm that is expected to better organize and gain strength in the gulf of mexico in the next 24 to 48 hours. >> tonight is when the conditions will start going downhill in the warning areas, so preparations need to be taken today. >> isaac should make land fall around the same time hurricane katrina roared into the gulf as a category three storm. its seven year anniversary is this wednesday. it was the worst natural disaster in u.s. history. levees in new orleans gave way to the storm surge flooding 80% of the city. leaving more than 1800 people dead and more than $80 billion in damages. the path of isaac is similar to katrina's, but the main difference is its size and strength. isaac's winds will likely be less than katrina, but most importantly, the national hurricane center says stm surges are expected to be less than half the size of katrinas. for some residents, they aren't taking any chances. now katrina made land fall twice as a category 3 hurricane and that was wit

right, so our organization is the contractor to samhsa and cofunded by the children's bureau, the national center on substance abuse and child welfare. in that role, we have seen many things happen that the systems are working together in different ways to identify earlier so that families that may get a first report of neglect. most kids and most families that come to the attention of the child welfare system are there for reasons of neglect rather than abuse or sexual abuse. in fact, we've made great strides in the country in the last decade at reducing the numbers of kids with physical and sexual abuse, and yet we haven't really changed that number on how many kids are in the neglect category of those reports. typically, we see that there are several reports before child welfare steps in active services. there may be some investigations that go on. they are very adept now at being able to look at risk and safety factors for the child, to understand when that child is in imminent risk. what is "imminent risk"? so that our audience understands what we're talking about. child welfare, cps workers
