the parks service men cited one small part of the alaska national interest lands conservation act. the national park service bans hovercrafts on federal property but sturgeon says the river he was hunting on ran thru state lands-. it was within a larger federal land border, though. sturgeon believes the federal rules should not apply. so the court must decide how to treat non -federal land like this. "the case is federal overreach and the government keeping their promises." sturgeon got backing from the state of alaska, the alaskan delegation and multiple native corporations and natural resource groups-- just to name a few. jumping as we're seeing it here in one of the many national parks, b.a.s.e.deral law, in almost all national parks. there have been 275 b.a.s.e. jumping fatalities since 1981. you take issue, marah, with peop people focusing on the danger of the sport. why is that? >> i don't really take issue, it's just that i think there's a lot more to it. a lot of sports are dangerous. the interesting thing about dank in national parks specifically is because it's, quote, illegal, actually it's not illegal because it's not sanctioned by the national parks, it actually is more dangerous, because b.a.s.e. jumpers are jumping at night. i think there are safer ways to b.a.s.e. jump. i think it's more of a topic of understanding the sport itself and making it as safe as possible. i think that making it illegal, which it's actually not, or making it not sanctioned, actually creates an environment where b.a.s.e. jumpers are under more hazardous conditions. skydiving is not the safest sport, certain kinds of skiing. it's about looking at it logically and not a knee jerk reaction.

the national park service has found the body of a local man in colorado. rangers believe ronald webber of maitland fell off a cliff, plunging 200 feet to his death. he was reported missing to rocky mountain national park rangers on wednesday. after an extensive search, they found his body yesterday afternoon. the medical examiner will figure and we also now know the name of the man who drowned at a daytona beach shores condo. police say 72-year-old dana chamberlin was found face down in a hot tub last night at ocean' s atrium condos. investigators are working to determine whether a medical condition caused chamberlin to collapse. meanwhile tonight, investigators are working to figure out whether car-breaks in multiple counties are related. five vehicles at a holiday inn and 13 at a hampton inn were all burglarized wednesday night in flagler county. a hyundai was stolen and abandoned in volusia county. deputies believe this is part of a trend where suspects target vehicles at hotels. they then smash out the windows and take purses and wallets. whatever they

in our national park, including the $127 million backlog of maintenance at hawaii's national parks. this much-needed new fund will ensure that people can enjoy the beauty of our parks for generations to come. in addition to improving energy usage in our homes and businesses, we must ensure that government takes full advantage of new energy and energy-efficient technologies. for the fourth consecutive year, the state of hawaii led the nation in per-capita use of energy performance contracting for state and county buildings, resulting in the creation of over 3,000 jobs and energy savings of over $989 million. i'd like to expand the use of energy contracting at the federal level to save taxpayer dollars and support the use of cleaner sources of energy. i will be offering an amendment to allow all federal agencies to use long-term contracts to reduce their energy bills as the department of defense is allowed to do under current law. i also plan to offer an amendment to establish a pilot project to expand the use of federal energy savings performance contracts to mobile sources like feder
