we heard from some national republicans saying i don't care if he aborted baby eagles, i want controlse any support because of that reporting? >> i don't think so. i think that republican voters have shown that they are really not that different from these republican leaders, who are interested in power. they're interested in controlling the senate, and they're willing to overlook just about anything. we saw that with donald trump. and so there is this deniability factor. he's doing exactly what donald trump created the playbook on, which is just to deny things, say they didn't happen, even if it did happen, and, you know, honestly, i think if he was caught on video writing a check to planned parenthood and said he didn't do it, the voters would say well, he said he didn't do it. that's what we have come to, people are saying well, it's okay for me to support this person so that we can have control of the senate, and the ends justify the means. >> this is a tight race in georgia. abortion obviously one of the issue at the forefront. if you look at what people in georgia believe about

really rely on winning this georgia race. >> david, what do you make so far by the moves of national republicansh a strong stand here? >> i think their stand is an interesting one. it's not in raw defense of herschel walker. you see some of the former elected and some of the talk show host defend herschel walker, and what you are seeing from national republicans in trying to protect herschel walker is to go after democrats, and when rick scott and tom cotton are on the ground, they will spend more time talking about president biden and vice president harris and nancy pelosi than they will herschel walker, and with walker, there's a strategy of denial, and there are four weeks to go and it's already breaking. it's not working. this is a candidate that said i will explain the road i have travelled and his message of grace and redemption is a good one, and you will see the republicans attack and attack democrats here through november and try to avoid defending herschel walker on the substance of the issue. >> and then a new pro warnock ad, and it hones in on accusations made by walker's son, christ

all national republicans are sticking with herschel walker, there is some daylight with republicans. the georgia lieutenant governor saying the staunchest republicans are rattled by what they saw. the baggage might be unbearable. what do you make of how it is playing out and what it means for midterm politics? >> the lieutenant governor, a lone voice in suggesting the moment was too big, saying he was perhaps not a qualified candidate. only on the ballot because he has scored touchdowns. he did not know who the tenant -- the lieutenant governor was. largely, republicans are republican voters. since these stories claiming his opponent, senator warner, is misrepresenting his record. a natural narrowing of these race -- races. they have tightened in georgia, pennsylvania. we have close races in wisconsin, ohio, arizona only a few points. it is a 50-50 senate. democrats felt really good most of this summer with the wind at their back, a lot of legislation passed. it feels a republicans sense they have a big momentum at the moment as the national conversation turns into issues good for th

the difference, though, is that national republicans stepped into the race.y poured millions of dollars into that race to help j.d. vance. but national democrats aren't doing the same thing for tim ryan. what's going on? karen: i think some of that comes from that ohio went for former president trump in 2016 and 2020 by eight points. i mean, trump won ohio by more than 475,000 votes in 2020. and so there were some democrats i think who kind of wrote off ohio as being a state that really wasn't going to embrace having potentially two democratic senators. ohio has one in sherrod brown who was re-elected in 2018. so the question then becomes, who could be the potential democratic candidate. tim ryan had talked about it for a while, he talked about running for governor. but as you said, this was kind of a year that looked tailor-made for him, because while he does have a very strong record in voting with democrs, he does have that populist dial that sherrod brown and others have seen as being more moderate. and so i think that that's made this race competitive, a

obviously the public polling nationally started blowing in the republicans' direction. senate races, pennsylvania, georgia in particular, you can see some of the numbers this week. people aren't too hung up on polls. you try not to get irrationally exuberant at the end of an election, but what you are hung up on are the fundamentals. the generic ballot seems to be moving towards republicans. 30% of the country thinks we're on the wrong track. biden still consistently low. it would be unusual for the party in power to outrun the president when he's in such poor shape. so positive vibes right now. >> uh-huh. so democrats -- i agree with the congressman. we're feeling good. number one, we have certainly stopped what could have been a red wave. that's not to say we'll win everything, but i don't think we'll see a wave the way we saw, for example, in 2018 where we had a blue wave. 57% of new registrants post dobbs are women. a lot of it is going to be about turning out women. older women in particular are very concerned about social security and medicare. the republicans do
