welcome back to the show, brandon arnold of the national taxpayers union.so much they, they want big government to bully everyone into paying for it. good to see you, brandon. they want more irs firepower for audits to go after all levels of income classes? what do you say? >> what they're looking to do, put $80 billion with a b into the irs to hire 87,000 new agents to start to do 1.2 million new audits every year. and these audits are not going after jeff bezos and bill gates and the wealthiest americans. of course there will be some wealthy people that are targeted but nearly half of these audits, nearly half of the 1.2 million audits will target people making $75,000 or less according to the ways and means republican staff. so you're talking about hundreds of thousands of people that would be affected. that will see their lives thrown into disarray with the irs coming after them if the takes into big effect. elizabeth: digging into the plan, brandon, democrats want to empower irs agents to go rogue. irs agents would get the power to pen loads anyone the

arthel: joining us now is executive vice president of the national taxpayers union, brandon arnold.don, do you agree with secretary yellen? what percentage of this inflation is caused by the pandemic? >> well, i think what this administration needs to do, first of all, i'm glad that they're finally recognizing that inflation is a problem because just a month ago the white house chief of staff was telling us it's only affecting high income individuals, not recognizing that working class and everyday americans are getting walloped by inflation. now they're trying to pass a piece of legislation that would make the problem significantly worse rather than better. so he yes, the pandemic is a huge factor here, secretary yellen is right in that. what the administration needs to do is stop making things worse. put together a plan that actually improves the situation rather than exacerbates it. arthel: they would say their plan would improve it, but let me move on. how much, though -- because this brings me to my next thought. how much is political stagnation contributing to the current infl

[laughter] brandon arnold here as well, national pax tayers' union -- taxpayers union executive.ery much. you have long argued that this package that targets the wealthy the pay for it won't end up having the wealthy as the only ones paying for it. what do you make of what the cbo has found which seems to indicate you either tap the wealthy more, or you move down the tax food chain? what do you think? >> yeah. actually the, the joint committee on taxation released some really interesting data on this last week, and they said people making $50,000-$200,000 will see tax increases in many years of this plan. now, people make over a million dollars, on the other hand, in the first year of this plan are going to get $47 billion in tax relief. that's more than what they got under the tax cuts and jobs act. so this is a really, really messy form of legislation here where you see the middle class get tax increases and the wealthiest getting tax breaks. it's not fair. it's poorly constructed. neil: you know, frances, it's going to be probably mightily changed in the senate if it even gets
