the national weather service says the most severe weather will hit this area this afternoon into early friday morning. wind gusts of 70-80 and 100 miles per hour are predicted, and also up to 5 feet of snow. that is naturally going to cause problems on the roadways, so caltrans urges drivers to stay off the roads during that time period. they will likely close roadways and highways because of the ice, the snow on the roads, and, of course, the low visibility. the national weather service also issued an avalanche warning because of the heavy snowfall and winds expected. here at heavenly mountain resort, they are on wind hold, meaning if the winds do increase in speed to 70, 80, or 100 miles per hour, they will close the lifts for safety reasons, and in the upper mountains, they are closed to the public today, but, of course, severe weather on the way. good news for skiers and snowborders who are out here enjoying this heavy snowfall because california has been experiencing a very dry winter, so this is some much-needed snow. if you are planning oncoming out here, please, be careful. che

i took off storm ranger, showed you the national weather service radar.how you as much detail. so this is something we will see off and on as we go throughout the day. now, we know basic science that warm air rises, but these little disturbances that we're having coming through is forcing cold air to rise and that makes it really turbulent, really disturbed weather and we will have a chance we could see lightning, even small hail and this next little disturbance starts to move into the bay area by later on this morning. as we look at the bigger picture we still see that there's still some more areas of low pressure across the region and until all of this moves off towards the east we are still going to have unsettled weather through saturday. as you're getting dressed this morning we do need the jackets, with he need the umbrellas of course, so make sure you've got all of that. we have kids that will be walking out of school today in protest and right at about 10:00 there's going to be light rain moving through, especially for the south bay and east bay.

to the north we go and the national weather service across the region is not messing around. 70 millione from the ohio valley out to the northeast under winter weather advisory and watches and winter storm warnings in association with what this storm has the potential doing in the next 24 hours. it parks off the east coast by this time tomorrow. in fact, before it gets there, severe weather concern is not done yet. upwards of 14 million people from jacksonville to charleston. that is the highest risk for the next round of severe weather. this will push up to the north and the east coast. depending on the track dictates the snow. the track wants to stay closer toward land. that is the case with heavy snowfall which is the heaviest of nor'easters in the month of march. for washington and new york city as well. watch the track. watching this carefully with the first scenario closer to the coast and the second scenario is farther away. models want this closer to land. that is why the snow totals are more impressive tomorrow night into wednesday morning. here is what we are looking at. snowf
