the national weather service says the most severe weather will hit this area this afternoon into early friday morning. wind gusts of 70-80 and 100 miles per hour are predicted, and also up to 5 feet of snow. that is naturally going to cause problems on the roadways, so caltrans urges drivers to stay off the roads during that time period. they will likely close roadways and highways because of the ice, the snow on the roads, and, of course, the low visibility. the national weather service also issued an avalanche warning because of the heavy snowfall and winds expected. here at heavenly mountain resort, they are on wind hold, meaning if the winds do increase in speed to 70, 80, or 100 miles per hour, they will close the lifts for safety reasons, and in the upper mountains, they are closed to the public today, but, of course, severe weather on the way. good news for skiers and snowborders who are out here enjoying this heavy snowfall because california has been experiencing a very dry winter, so this is some much-needed snow. if you are planning oncoming out here, please, be careful. che
