the flood advisory that the national weather service has issued, you can see this includes the entire north bay and it includes the city and east bay, just a little bit of background on why they felt they needed to do that, we are going to use the virtual map and go back to the extreme differences that the bay can experience when a system comes in. it hasn't rained a lot in comparison to the numbers that we have seen just since this afternoon in the north bay. if you take a look at santa rosa's number, you are already at one inch of rain just since this afternoon. what is different about this system, that line of rain is going to continue moving across the rest of the bay so that everybody is going to get a similar show, in terms of rainfall amounts. when you look at the flood advisory, but going back to the rain, that line is oriented almost directly south, which means it doesn't just rain that heavily tonight, it'll probably be a similar rainfall total for a good part of the bay, we will track this through the remainder of tonight and i will show you why tomorrow there is a differen

for a friday forecast issued by the national weather service. today we could see strong rip currents and strong sneaker waves but more importantly the strong waves moving in anywhere up to 33 feet high with swells continuing to push and from offshore. that is what we are looking at for a coastline. for the rest of us in the bay area it is a mild forecast with clouds rolling in from offshore. a light drizzle today heading into the overnight hours tonight and we get ready for tomorrow which will be very active system moving its way into the afternoon as we see heavy rain building its way in from offshore and this is the front leading edge of an area of low pressure and from north to south and everywhere in between we see heavy showers impacting our friday forecast. this is into the evening hours friday night . unsettled weather lingering and at that point we can see some thunderstorm activity based on the system . with a lot of uplift in the atmosphere. today, 60s and 50s throughout the bay. upper 50s novato and upper 60s in san francisco. half mo

tomorrow morning issued by the national weather service. now we can see waves anywhere up to around 33 feet high today along that coastline of course we just mentioned it sneaker waves are possible. rip currents are going to beery ridiculous this afternoon. actually go to the virtual reality map real fast and keeping a close eye on anywhere from like i said bodega bay stretching down along the coastline into the santa cruz area. into this afternoon. today not the day to head out to the coastline and today is the day to stay away. minor flooding is possible along the coastline but let's dive into this more now. along the coastline the storm that came in yesterday is the big reason why we're seeing such strong surf today. here's we rewind it a little bit and here's yesterday's storm wringed out moisture all throughout bay area. we're catching a break right now gearing up for the next rain system but it takes longer for the coastal areas to actually see the impacts from the exact same storm. today those strong waves are going to move in along

the national weather service issued a flood advisory until 7:45 . the take away, roadway flooding, low-lying intersections, maybe some clogged gutters. the rain that we got can already run off pretty fast from hard surfaces like asphalt and concrete. so, we could see another half an inch of rain. but, if we turn our attention south, san francisco, you still have another inch to go and that is from right now through the overnight tonight. and when we look at the rest of the bay, it is the same story. we still have a pretty good night ahead in terms of rainfall. let me show you why, this is the first alert doppler. look where we are. we are in the main plume of this cold front which is driving a pretty good band of steady and moderate rain across the heart of the bay. and the high resolution futurecast sees it perfectly and shows us why we should hunker down because it is going to stay fairly rainy for the next several hours. by the time we get to 6:00, the peninsula and south bay, and once we get into the later hours, it keeps regenerating over that

that is the reason why the national weather service has issued the flood advisory. until 9:00 tonight. here's the take away, we have already seen enough rain from this. the north bay already has over one inch in places, you are likely going to encounter some ponding of water on the roadways and maybe some water in the low-lying intersections, it is the pavement and the concrete that the water can run off real quickly. most of us are within that area of shaded green, just be real careful on the roads because this is the amount of rain that could cause some hydroplaning, the unexpected puddle or you might have to reroute. on the future cast now, which does see this beautifully, just switching to the computer forecast model imagery, over the next few hours, it is not going to change a lot. it is going to be a slow progression as it moves off to the east but this will be more impressive rain . the ability for this one to drop a decent amount of rain in a short time and to kind of hang out for several hours in the same spot with that north to south orientation, it is a p

that's particularly what the national weather service worried about on those waves can really. catch people off-guard. and so keep that mind. if you're heading out there. so we've been tracking the rain north in the pacific northwest. they had to atmospheric rivers dumping inches of rain and mountain snow. and now we actually are sitting that one out. we have high pressure in control here. so that's why we've been staying mostly dry. we did pick up some measurable rain over the weekend, but we have dry conditions today and tomorrow, upper 60's out the door right now and mid 60's and places like oakland id places like a 56 degrees, rather at 67 in santa rosa. and 66 in san jose. you can expect the similar temperatures tomorrow. so we're about 5 degrees warmer in places like santa rosa and 3 degrees warmer in livermore. this time. 24 hours ago. so for tonight, though, temperatures should be dipping down to the low 40's and low 50's expect partly cloudy skies and overnight, overcast conditions looking ahead for the rest of your week here. so notice upper 60's for your daytime high

now i mentioned it earlier and continue to show you this but the national weather service is on top ofissuing a dense fog advisory. i mean all the anchors this morning and all the staff took it slow driving into work this morning. visibility is really low. as i advance the clock through the next couple of howevers visibility still remains low as we head into the afternoon hours today. now for the most part, it's going to be around 11:00 when we start seeing a break apart along the coastline and the graphics decided to stop working despite the fact that i'm pushing through. how long the fog is going tolast but in the grand scheme of things, it's going to bleed off. here's a look at the daytime highs today. now that fog will still last especially along the coast. and along the bay waters. daytime highs this afternoon, sitting in the 60s. widespread throughout the bay area. napa, 67 degrees. stretching all the way down into the santa clara valley. 60s and 70s in the forecast for us today. folks, it is december and we are talking about 70s in the forecast for us. yes, we are above average

the national weather service warning of dangerous surf as well as life-threatening rip currents.not just manhattan beach where we are, there are coastal flood and high survey lerts all the way from the u.s./mexico border to the bay area and yesterday we saw these massive waves pummeling the coast. santa cruz county was particularly affected, parts of that were evacuated. there was a stunning footage of massive waves flooding over a restaurant there and i should note that that restaurant had actually been closed for remodels for months. it had just reopened. now closed again because of that damage. parts of santa cruz also expecting waves of up to 40 feet this weekend. onlookers from yesterday describing the terror. take a listen. >> it's a pure state of panic, to be honest, as far as the community goes because you know there's plenty out there that are not prepared. >> this wave just came seemingly out of nowhere. just this rush -- i mean, you saw it. it was 6, 8 feet deep. >> reporter: and crews in ventura beach which was also affected yesterday had worked through the night to s

as the shows were starting, national weather service updated that.ct and it will last until tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. i will show you where that will impact us. i will turn the fog on so you can see we are waking up to cloudy conditions no matter where you live into santa clara valley where we are in the low 50s, upper 40s or along the peninsula closer to red wood city, 101 into san francisco with more in sight this morning waking up and heading out the door. it is cloudy. the visibility is not an issue at the surface level. if you encounter fog at the lower levels, keep it slow this morning. wednesday is the next chance of showers returning to the forecast as we time that out on futurecast. we are seeing partly cloudy skies throughout the afternoon hours today, similar trend into our tuesday forecast with a huge strong storm system closer to gulf of alaska that's slowly moving in. into wednesday notice that clothes lines into us in the bay area. wednesday afternoon, we are keeping a close eye on the system offshore for a couple reasons. this is
