the national portrait gallery in the national museums offer insight into our nation's leaders. our diverse music collections would comprise the largest in the world if they were all in one place. now they are at a new of say -- as a new website -- now they are at a new website called "smithsonian music." a gallery reopened in november, following a two-year renovation. its debut division, wonder, has attracted more than 368,000 visitors in just the first four months. and in 2015, we welcomed a new at the national zoo. beloved by the public, bebe represents our extensive work in species biodiversity. in addition to the nearly 30 million visits to our museums in washington and new york city, we are extending access and education across the country. we now have 208 affiliate museums in 46 states, puerto rico, and panama. the smithsonian traveling exhibition service reaches more than 4.5 million people annually . we offer online educational materials in grades k through 12 to students of all ages, and teachers with more than 2000 learning resources available online. all of them for

for the national parks and the other national parks these are big drivers and the revenue and tourism across the country. in 2015 download the national park service confirmed a record 307.2 million which was a 4.9 increase over the previous record-setting year in 2014 at 292.8 million visits. i wish we could get more of those. and within parks at more than 5 million recreation visits in 2015 and overnight stays in the country were up over 2015 so obviously a broad recognition across the country of the unique opportunities in the national parks. but despite the support for the national park service, the budget has been decreasing. the past ten years they've had the budget decreased by 22% compromising its ability to make sure that the protection of the ability to ensure the long-term protection of this great heritage. in my own district in the historical park they had a 15% reduction in full-time staff from fiscal gear ten to 15 and a 22% reduction in the park space budget which commemorates the beginning of the american revolution there's been a 27% decrease in the staff time which is

president, our nation's founders fought the british empire to create an independent nation governed by laws. they fought so that their children could be free from the callous fiats of a monarchy on the other side of the ocean. our founders learned from the excesses and mistakes of european powers and came together to design a new system of government. a carefully balanced system, one of distributed powers and responsibilities, checks and balances. american school children learned about the three co-equal branches of government and the unique roles that they play in maintaining that carefully crafted balance of power. a strong, independent and fully functioning judiciary is inseparable from a peelt american democracy. our founders wisely reached consensus to create our system wherein the president designates judicial nominees and the senate provides advice and consent. this prevents undue influence or control by either the white house or the congress over the supreme court. simply put, the senate has a constitutional duty to provide timely consideration of any president's supreme court

standard and a national approach.and, as with the area of cafe standards, where i was very involved, it's important that it works from an industry standpoint. and so i think -- i know it can be done, and it's our job to get to that point. we also recognize, though, that a growing number of american consumers want to know more about the food they eat. and they have the right to know. they have the right to know what is in their food. i was very proud of the fact that we came together in the last farm bill to recognize all parts of agriculture, the fastest-growing part of agriculture is the organic sector. and we gave more opportunities to support the organic sector, the local food movement. people should have choices in deciding what food they eat, how it's grown, how it's processed, and that's something that we have said in national policy that we support through our agricultural policies. unfortunately, the senate is poised to vote on a bill that i do not support, that does not fully answer this demand for consumers.
