navy? what did they set for the culture of the navy? how did they carry it forward with the technology we have today? >> i will take a first shot at that. there is no question that stephen decatur was the early definition of the ethos we represent in the navy. bold, decisive, victorious in just about every engagement. during my time, i have experienced going from what i would call the analog maybe. i flew in planes that had nothing digital, the going into the beginning of the digital navy. granted, when i started flying, some of the most dangerous things you could do was just to fly and maybe land on a pitching deck aircraft carrier. i have witnessed younger tenants -- young lieutenants making incredibly courageous decisions in the air over combative territory, being fired at over the country of kosovo in 1999 against a mobile surface-to-air style missile. close in, not knowing where they were. instead of just evading at not being shot down, they went head-to-head with them at took down those sites. that type of instinctual daring still

navy avenger squadrons. because of brevity, because of we're going to focus more on the dive bombers. i don't mean to diminish anyone's role. the first to fight from henderson field was a group called flight 300. that happened to be the flight number from the uss enterprise during the battle of the eastern solomons. now, when enterprise is so badly damaged that they can't land. they have orders, if need be, to continue to guadalcanal and landed henderson field, which in fact they do. they didn't have any idea how to land. it was a comedy of errors getting them down safely without crashing. but this was a mixed bunch. scouting five and bombing six air crewmen who had been launched safely. here they are landing on a dirt strip on an island barely held by the marines close by, still japanese within mortar range and within firing range of where they would sleep at night. so begins six weeks for the enterprise flight 300 dive bomber guys on hells island. now, the leader of this flight was lieutenant caldwell. he

this was a location in the 1950s, where the navy, there was a medium containing vial that was brokenn that building. that building, in its entirety, and the drain lines from that building were demolished and removed by the navy, and handled as low-level radioactive waste, so to any concern that there work on that project, all of the areas that they surveyed have been demolished, removed, and handled as low-level radiological waste. there's not really a concern that any mischaracterization of their survey work led to a lesser standard of caution or care. another area where they were involved was in the scanning of two buildings that were slated for demolition. these buildings, i don't have the exact address is in my head, but they are within one of the solid waste disposal areas, so they are within a radio logically contained area where the navy continues to do work, and so again, that area is the subject of ongoing work in further investigation. another area that they were involved in was the removal of some radiological items that were identified by the california department of publ
