navy yard. as you can see, a massive police presence, because at about 7:40 this morning according to the "washingtonpost" a 911 call came in saying there was a shooter inside the navy yard. at that point the active shooter protocol went into place at the u.s. navy yard though there was no confirmation. still they have security measures. what they did was tell everyone to be on lockdown and shelter in place. what the 911 call claimed was that this was a shooter on the second floor. our justice correspondent have told us there have been many buildings there searched including 197. that was significant because that was the scene otf the shooting there that turned out to be a massacre back in 2013. reportedly all those builds have been searched and nothing has been found. they are not clearing the scene yet. there are still police inside and they are still searching. we want to bring in right now an eyewitness. his name is jordan rogers. jordan, can you hear us? jordan, tell us where you are this morning and what happened. >> i was on the second floor this morning talking with my colleague lieutenant co

marines in last night's shooting spree, three others are recovering a marine, navy sailor and a police officer. identities of those killed were not released yet by law enforcement. they were hit by gun fire at the navy operations center in chattanooga, tennessee. the fbi sauce they will look deep into every angle of 24-year-old mohammad abdulazeez is now identified as the shooter. he opened fire essentially what was described as witnesses as a drive-by type shooting. after that he drove over to the operational center about seven miles away. that is where the four marines were killed. the fbi says at this point they do not have anything specific linking abdulazeez to a international terrorist organization. he was also not on the fbi's radar. >> i can't speculate on what his motivation would have been or what, what or if any affiliation he may have. >> sandra the timing of the shooting certainly raised suspicion. isis as you know called for attacks on u.s. military personnel. law enforcement all over the country have been increasingly concerned about potential lone wolf self-radicalized

police say 24-year-old mohammed abdulazeez opened fire on two military recruiting stations killing four marines wound ago female navylor police officer. the sailor is in the hospital tonight. the shooter did not enter the building, rather, he fired from outside. dozens of shots were heard. reports say adual la zeez was trapped in the woods after a chase. was killed by law enforcement. we are awaiting further details on that. it's pretty murky right now that's the initial report. here is what we know about the terrorist. he graduated from the university of tennessee he in 2012 with a degree in engineering. we believe is he an american citizen born in kuwait, not been confirmed yet. his father works for the city of chattanooga. his family middle class. on the victim front, we are awaiting the identities of the four murdered marines pending the notification of heir families. the fbi now in charge of the investigation and the associated press is reporting that authorities raided the shooter's house taking two women into custody. we are also awaiting more word on that situation. so you can see there is a a lot in play. e

police department city wide channel as a request for metropolitan police to assist with a potential active shooter at the washington navy yard. along with the metro police, metro transit police ncis, united states marshall, atf, capital police and others respopded -- responded to the request. >> here is headline. there were reports of an active shooter at the washington navy yard and there was no shooter, no shooting, and no victims. that was the big story as it broke earlier this morning before 8:00 the public got informed about it. here we are several hours later and it was a false alarm. joe is retired nypd director and we have a former fbi director. nice to talk to you. we want to talk to you about the response and what is ahead. joe, what did you think of the response? >> i think it was a great response. it shows the response today is critical. they took the threat, aaccessed it, and addressed it correctly. false alarm or not they had to respond in this manner. it shows the coordinated effort of all agencies and how it came along since 9/11. >> we compare it often to that. danny, your thoughts? >> i think they did

the police began a slow chase towards the walt whitman bridge. the driver went over the bridge into a navy yard where it hit a police car. the oaklyn police were still giving chase as it headed back into new jersey. and the deptford mall it made a tour of the parking lot. residential neighborhoods, and believe it or not, back to the walt whitman and into philadelphia through old city the historic district center city and back south on 95. that's when the police tried, and almost succeeded, in boxing him in. and it seemed that he was surrounded but he made a nifty escape even at 30 miles per hour. it was near the airport where the ordeal finally came to an end. a state trooper flipped the van giving other police a chance to converge on the suspect. he was arrested without incident. and live with the van still there is sharrie williams. >> jim you are right. that nifty escape didn't last long as it did come to a conclusion right here. we are live on the scene where this white dodge appeared to be a work van. it's still here. it flipped and uprighted itself. there's glass on the ground. you s

starting a little around 8:00 this morning local time, police began a massive response to reports of a possible active shooter at the washington navyd. that prompted the base to lock down. this is the same facility that fell victim to an active shooter two years ago that killed 12 people. we're now hearing from d.c.'s police chief that her officers are preparing to clear the scene. that would indicate an all-clear is likely to be given. at no point during this search was an active shooter found. that is part of an investigation. we know there was a report of a possible active shooter after a massive police response. it does not appear there was in fact, any kind of shooting here at the navy yard. gayle? >> a derailed freight train carrying a poisonous chemical is on fire in east tennessee. it forced widespread evacuations in maryville. it was traveling to waycross georgia. up to 5,000 people within a mile of the scene were ordered out of their homes. they may not be able to return for 48 hours. >> one car derailed. ten first responders were taken to the hospital. elaine quijano is in our newsroom following this developing story. go

we had fbi federal marshals, atf, navy and cis, d.c. metro police, a lot of people at a moment's notice to coordinate. >> yeah, it's great. it definitely shows that they were ready for something like this to occur. we have to take a look at here when officers first respond to an active shooter or a shooting scene, when they first arrive, if there's not shooting going on we can pretty much know it's not a terrorist attack unless it's an ambush situation. and if it was an ambush situation, as soon as you arrive, the terrorists would be shooting at you. second of all, when they entered the building now, you probably have to be thinking that might be a personal type thinking somebody shooting somebody for personal problems with someone. as soon as you enter a building and the floor where the alleged shooting occurred, you would smell gunpowder permeating through the air. so that was something i was always looking for right away and as soon as you know you didn't smell it then, therefore, no shots were probably fired in that section you were at. then you
