. >> nbc's jay gray joins us live now. you are joining us live from outside the jail. what is the latest out there? >> reporter: things have changed dramatically over the last 30 minutes as the former president left the jail after spending less than 30 minutes inside. this roadway that leads into the facility was not only lined with police officers but also blocked, barricades. a sheriff's bus along with dump trucks used as barricades to provide extra security. again, the president inside less than 30 minutes. he was read his rights, surrendered to state police. he was booked. formally acknowledged the charges. he has not been arraigned yet. then he was fingerprinted and posed for a mugshot. that expected to be released soon. that is something that hasn't happened in the three previous indictments. we have not seen a mugshot of the former president. we do at some point this evening expect to see that released publicly we are told. the president as you talked about made the trip back to atlanta's hartsfield airport the busiest airport in the world and paused briefly bef

nbc's sam brock is following this story.ter: yeah, hours and a lot of good luck. as you said, 46 miles off the coast of north carolina. that's not a hop, skip, and a jump, that's about a two-hour ride for the u.s. coast guard to get out there. the video that you're looking at is infrared because it's from overnight. the divers were rescued at 12:45 a.m. there happened to be a naval warship nearby, what you saw on the screen. that small bot in the middle is the four divers. they were identified by the coast guard after midnight. when that happened the coast guard saw the lights. they dropped down flares and a life raft for them to get on top of. you see the boat dispatched to come rescue them. those are four ordinary divers. one 64 years old, an experienced navy diver. they went out with friends. this was a routine recreational trip. you see the families' reaction there after the fact, embracing on dry land. basically this morning, right. this happened overnight. as they're suddenly realizing their loved ones that they're goi

nbc news justice and intelligence correspondent ken dilanian is in washington, and nbc's julie jesters in new hampshire for us. ken, let's start with you. you were outside the courthouse as this arraignment was happening yesterday. the judge gave a somewhat president. themer what did she and what are the steps in this case? >> reporter: as she was instructing mr. trump on the conditions of his release, she told him he couldn't commit any crimes, obviously, while free, she also made a point of saying that it was a crime to bribe or intimidate or threaten both a juror and a witness in this case. which is not a normal, typical admonition given to a defendant in washington, d.c. and it really did set a tone, setting the stage for potential controvers over mr. trump's comments attacking prosecutors and judges on social media. as for what's next, there are two important dates coming up, august 10th, each side has to submit a brief, describing how long they think this case would take to try, and when they think it would go to trial, and then there will be a hearing on august 28th, during whi

and nbc news now anchor hallie jackson.o with us is former federal prosecutor and nbc news legal analyst carol lam. let's start with you here, we just listed a ton of dates. do we actually expect any of these to hold? >> we've certainly gone from famine to feast in terms of the number of legal proceedings we are trying to keep an eye on. it's pretty extraordinary. donald trump has three criminal cases with trial dates already set within the next few months. and there's one by the georgia court pretty soon. so that's a lot -- that's a lot for any one individual to keep track of, much less be a party to. the one i think has the likeliest chance of actually going to trial within the next few months is actually jack smith's d.c. case where donald trump is charged with a fairly wide ranging conspiracy, but he is the only defendant in that case, and i think everybody recognizes the importance of that case and the importance of getting that case to trial, so fani willis did what she thought was the right thing to do, and maybe it

nbc's ken dilanian is following all of that for us. walk us through this very crowded calendar, ken. >> yeah, at this point, chris, donald trump's most important legal strategy is to seek delays in all of these cases any way he can because if he's elected president, it's possible that none of them can move forward. he could order his justice department to drop the federal cases, and it's official doj policy that a sitting president can't be prosecuted and that would include state cases. in the atlanta case, he's making clear that he will try to slow things down. his lawyer filed a motion telling the judge that mr. trump wants no part of the bid by one of his codefendants to have the trial in october. he will ask to sever his case from that defendant, kenneth chesebro and any other defendant who makes such a demand. given the number of defendants in the atlanta case it may take a while to get that one to trial, especially because it will be competing against three other cases against mr. trump, all of which have a head start. the new yo

joining us now, nbc's guad venegas and nbc meteorologist bill karins who is following the track of thistorm. guad, what conditions are you seeing this morning? >> jose, we have some light rain here in san diego, now the storm has passed the region or at least the big part of the storm we had rain all throughout yesterday and we saw those images you just played from mexico. that's where the hurricane made landfall or that is the tropical storm once it arrived, it made landfall in mexico, and depending on the areas where it was going through, of course, the results are different. usually the mountain areas will get the rain and that rain will run off through the flat areas and we saw what can happen once it makes its way and those flash floods happen in mexico. the tropical storm came into the san diego area, there were power outages. the power company had warned the customers here that those were a possibility. thousands were affected yesterday. we had some downed trees in the area here in san diego, but most of the rain and the heavy winds were in the mountainous area on the east side o
