this is nbc bay area news tonight. i'm jessica aguirre. we're going start off by getting you caught up on some of the headlines that we're watching closely. we're going start with the prominent bay area democrat now publicly calling for senator dianne feinstein to resign. the 89-year-old senator hasn't voted in the senate in the last two months, since she came down with shingles. this afternoon, representative ro khanna formally called for feinstein to resign. he tweeted, "we need to put the country ahead of personal loyalty." he went on the say that it's obvious she can no longer fulfill her duties, and quote, not speak out undermines our credibility as elected representatives of the people. now khanna is the first member of congress to publicly make that kind of a statement. feinstein has been absent from voting since mid-february, not long after she formally announced she would not be running for reelection in 2024. and her absence has had a significant impact on capitol hill. democrats only have a two-vote majority in the senate now. >>

. >> reporter: velena jones, nbc bay area news. >>> another story in alameda county, the d.a. is denying published reports she is reducing charges in the murder of 2-year-old jasper wu. she says the claims are politically driven and not true. >> i assured the parents of jasper wu that the men we believe are responsible for his death are charged with very serious crimes, and they will be held accountable. we have not made any decisions about what charges to pursue or what not to pursue. we are still reviewing the case. >> 2-year-old jasper wu was shot and killed while riding in his family's car on 880 in 2021 and was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle. police arrested three people in the case. the men could face murder charges with criminal enhancements that would extend prison time for anyone found guilty. there have been reports the d.a. planned to drop those enhancements. price took office in january and ran on a platform of criminal justice reform that included sentence reduction with a stronger emphasis on alternative options. critics have accused the d.a. of ignoring

gogo national.l. >>> welcome back to nbc bay area news tonight. es as no surprise, but it still hurts for thousands of bay area tech workers. more layoffs at meta. this is mark zuckerberg's second round of job cuts within the last six months. today's layoffs largely from the services and software sectors of the company. they're part of the 10,000 job cuts announced in march, just last month. meta also announced 11,000 layoffs last november. meta grew at an incredibly fast pace during the pandemic lockdown partly because of facebook and instagram, the social networks were grow, and that's because the company was building up its planned metaverse. and it's the metaverse that suffered the deepest cuts. joining us now scott budman. we talk about the metaverse. that's the big pet project for mark zuckerberg. that a big issue now? is that dragging down the company? >> it was dragging down the company, raj, and it was really dragging down the company stock. now that a lot of those workers are out of jobs, this is what zuckerberg is calling the year of eff

nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live if oakland international. bob, flights delayed as a result now. what's the the aftermath we're seeing? >> reporter: and there's still plenty of residual delays. i was inside the terminal and there's plenty of yellow on the departure screen. this is what it looked like when we arrived this morning. it still looks like that. you can see there's lots of yellow next to the southwest airlines flights, which indicates those delays. most delays for 20 to 30 minutes. we did not see any cancellations. it was around 7:03 this morning when southwest experienced a computer problem and asked the faa to temporaily stop its planes from taking off which took about an hour. a number of passengers tweeted their frustration. according to flightaware.com, more than 1,700 flights were delayed nationwide, which represents more than 40% of southwest's flights for today. today's technical was not related to the one back last year with holiday cancellations and much longer delays than today. >> we'll see when we get to denver what hap
