this is nbc bay area news tonight. we started this newscast just this week in this new time slot, and we did this for stories like this, to explain, really explain what the heck is going on here and try to end the confusion. the problem is state leaders are also confused just a bit, but we've got some straight answers in the next 30 minutes. this is the sentiment you're going to be hearing everything is perfect, we're going to be reopening. that's not the case. here's the truth. you've got to keep your mask on basically in several situations and in several locations. today the state spelled out the new rules. take a look. if you're fully vaccinated there's no more need to -- there's no need to wear your mask indoors. that includes places like the grocery store, restaurant or even your hair salon. if you're not vaccinated you'll still be required to keep your mask on in all of these places. here's the practical reality. no matter what your vaccinated got to wear a mask in these situations. transportation like b.a.r.t. a

bay area. oracle park is re-opening at 100 capacity tonight for the first game in the bay bridge series. we sent nbc bay area cierra johnson out there. what can we expect? >> reporter: yeah, good morning, chris. i've already had a chance to speak with fans and they're pretty excited about some of the big changes happening today. it's game one of that bay bridge series. and it also means the first game with full capacity. a big deal after a rollercoaster ride known as covid. well, tonight's game does start at 6:45. and when fans arrive according to the giants' website they don't have to show that proof of vaccination or any of those negative covid tests. fans are just able to come in with a ticket. and it is full capacity. what about those masks? face coverings are strongly recommended, particularly for fans who are not fully vaccinated when accessing those indoor spaces. another big change from the pandemic is the return of some of those north bay fans can once again attend the giants game by ferry. golden gate ferry relaunching its special event service to and from oracle for all of the remaining h

reporting live, i am jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >>> thank you, jodi. disturbing new development when it comes to water supply in california. the snow pack in the sierra has vanished. the snow pack was 59% of average. so water companies all the way down to los angeles adjusted their books to calculate the run off that number would provide. the water never showed off. instead of feeding into rivers and reservoirs, it melted into the ground. two years of drought left the ground so dry, the water sank in the the soil and never ran off. it is the first time the usual formulas failed. let's go outside right now from the north bay, you can see walnut creek, the south bay, the hills are extremely dry, we'll bring in our meteorologist jeff ranieri, we have been hearing this a lot, hot weather, the drought and it is not looking good this season. >> there is really no way out of it. just being on the defense and doing everything you can to keep your house fire safe is really going to be the best measures. as we head to the next couple of months. we just talked ab

nbc bay area's ian cull is there with more. ian? >> reporter: yeah, i met with the family for at least an hour tonight, saying they wanted to give them all the information they had in this case. also tonight, protestors starting in city hall before quickly taking to the streets. >> tonight, more than 100 protestors blocked highway 87 in san jose, chanting the name of stanley. they identify as the man shot and killed by san jose police last night. >> he was looking out for people, he gave me a shirt off his back and shoesen feet. >> that was the man defending his home, and people in plain growths that came are ammunition, and he is defending himself. >> also tonight, san jose police releasing three pictures from a surveillance camera on the street showing where it happened. one shows a man with a gun, another with it pointing at officers, and a third, a close up of the evidence. >> he was not last night to arrest him. tried to capture him. we had two officers at that location gathering information. >> there were a few other details r
