ginger conejero saab, nbc bay area news. >>> this morning the man accused in the half moon bay shooting was arraigned this morning on new grand jury charges. investigators say in january of last year 66-year-old chung lee zhao gunned down serve of his former workers where he worked and he pled not guilty again today. at one point last year he confessed on our janelle wang during a jailhouse interview. he's scheduled to return to court april 19th. >>> a man accused in a string of violent attacks in the south bay was due in court this morning for a plea hearing. authorities arrested kevin parkana in june. this was after an alleged rampage spanning 20 miles. in it, he left there people dead, seven others injured across san jossy and milpitas. investigators say the former tech worker was armed with a knife, a kitchen knife, which he used to stab four of his victims and used it to carjack. he refused to show up for his previous court date and has a history of mental issues. >>> governor gavin newsom is under the microscope in connection to a new law set to take effect in april. that's when t

this is "nbc bay area news tonight," and i'm jessica aguirre. we're going to start tonight with a crazy and brutal attack on a driver right in the middle of a sideshow. this happened in vallejo. tonight there are demands that people do something more. now, you're going to see this video, but i've got to tell you ahead of time it is hard to watch. social media video shows the sideshow happening just before sundown yesterday. what you're looking at is the intersection of springs road and rolling wood drive. at one point, the driver of a pickup gets caught in the sideshow. this is also a social media post. watch. it shows people actually attacking the driver, bashing his truck, and then setting it on fire. >> please help me. get the police over here. >> reporter: surveillance video from inside the nearby 7-eleven then shows the driver calling 911. the victim goes back outside to check on his truck, only to be chased back inside the store. the video then shows someone appearing to stab him as other people run around looting the store. now, luckily w

this is "nbc bay area news tonight." i'm raj mathai. we are kicking off a big, big weekend around here. sunshine and the year of the dragon. we're going to check in with the chinese new year parade in just a few minutes. >>> but we want to start with that dramatic midair rescue in the south bay. two workers hit a power line. san jose firefighters got the call for an electrical emergency at the crescent village apartment complex on zenka road. the men who were stuck were using what's called a boom lift to do some maintenance near the roof. but one workers touched the power line with his helmet. the jolt knocked him unconscious, and he was badly burned. but rescuers had to move slowly. >> what delayed the process of the rescue was pg&e has a very strict protocol for safety in order to go through to make sure the additional lines are not producing any power. >> the workers were eventually brought down and were hospitalized. firefighters say the two men were wearing protective gear, which helped them survive the shock. cal/osha is investiga
