the tech site with nbc universal that has a significant state. tim has been open about this for a long time. i was at a conference with him. there was not a person in the room that didn't know that privately. how did that change for him or the industry? >> a lot of people might have known and never spoke to him about it. i don't think he did say it in a public forum. i interviewed him many times and we didn't ask him about it and he didn't discuss it. he is probably one of the most prominent in the world and it's a fact about his life. he said it so publicly and such a strong way and he didn't back down at all. it's really important. it's an important thing to say out loud. >> he made the point that it's important for him this this kind of position. the study found that gay, lesbian and bisexual people hide their identity at work. how significant is that? >> i did it for a short time. i was not that closeted, but it's painful to leave part of your life out. it's interesting because gay people have to hide for their parents and family in many case

we begin with nbc 10's rosemary connors live at c.h.o.p. in philadelphia's university city. rosemary, you have been working this story all day. what have you found? >> reporter: well, renee, this afternoon we learned state officials here in pennsylvania asked administrators at c.h.o.p. just this week if they would be willing to have the hospital be designated as one of a few sites throughout the country that would treat any children who may become infected with ebola. the hospital agreed to participate. here at c.h.o.p. they have been training their staff since early august. they have been stocking u on the appropriate protective gear and they already have isolation rooms in place. a short while ago i spoke to c.h.o.p.'s medical director in charge of infection prevention and control and she tells me they're following cdc guidelines and learning from what's happened in dallas. >> preparation is key, and for us, really making our staff very comfortable and educated around the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, particularly in the removal of that equipment to do

university of pennsylvania. members of congress are in attendance. nbc 10's monique braxton is also there. >> reporter: members of congress have been here inside since about 9:30 this morning meeting with hospital executives. they did speak to us as they were going inside. they told us that they have come here seeking answers. today's meeting follows the diagnosis and continuing treatment of two nurses who contracted ebola while working at texas presbyterian in dallas. both cared for thomas eric duncan. the first person to be diagnosed with ebola in the united states. he died a few weeks ago. his nurse, 26-year-old nina pham is at nih in good condition. another nurse, 29-year-old amber joy vinson is at emory university hospital in atlanta. nurses in dallas and the national nurse's union have expressed outrage, also complains about the lack of equipment and training in handling ebola patients. we asked a congressman what he hopes to hear this morning. >> first, i'd like to allay regional anxieties and to assure that there is the appropriate sense of prepa

nbc 10's jesse gary is live in university city. and jesse, last half hour, you mentioned the broadening impact of this new law. explain. >> reporter: tracy, the movement to legalize, or at least lessen the penalties associated with marijuana possession aren't confined to the largest city in pennsylvania. yesterday in trenton, protesters gathered on the steps of the state house to demand that drug be legalized in that state. now, philadelphia hasn't gone that far, but it has decriminalized possession. people caught with less than 30 grams of marijuana in this city will face a fine, not jail time, starting today. if you don't have valid identification, police will take you to the nearest district station so they can figure out who you are and then you'll be freed. opinions about the new law running the gamete. >> i'm not sure that's good going into the future, because they slow down this and then they slow down them, and before you know it, there won't be any criminals. >> i really think that it's going to save us a lot of money and
